Question Max Emails Per hour Per Send?

Okay right now my email list is setup to 750 emails per hour. Not a problem. Now I want to throttle these so it doesn't send 750 emails at the start of every hour.

The script has the following feature. "Max Hourly Rate - The maximum number of emails that will be sent per send per hour. This will limit each send, it will not limit the total number of emails sent per hour."

What should I set this too? With only 750 emails an hour should I just set it to 1? (Is it worth the extra server load?) 1 user per email will be every 4.8 seconds.

    Any recommendations? Thanks

Is there a reason you want to limit it in the first place?

Are you seeing an increase in load at the start of the hour? Also, what is the script you speak of? Your description doesn't really provide enough information on what impact your change will have on performance. What determines the number of sends?

Probably wants to spread out the sending so he doesn't trigger blocking by yahoo, gmail, ect.

Is there a good number to keep it safe? 250? 350?

Well I imagine what it's saying is that it can send all 750 emails at one time each hour. I'd prefer it to send the 750 during the hours time instead of just the first 5 minutes.

Exactly, I don't want any issues with being blacklisted.

Are you talking about per email sent? Or are you talking about how many emails per hour?

I don't think I'm worried about the load to be honest. I just want to know the safest method to send emails. I hope that clarifies things up. Thanks

What control panel or smtp software are you using? Every one has different functions and capabilities.

Also, what mailing list software are you using?

The throttling can be controlled from different areas. It all depends on what you have and your needs before you can decide which is best to do.

I use Cpanel and the mailer is called Intelligent Mailer. This is a newsletter that I plan to send out every few months. It's well over 100,000 emails.

Generally it comes down to the software, some of the latest marketing software will allow you to modify the time between emails, and/or allow for real time 'pause' and 'resume' so you can have full control over the sending rates.

250 - 350 mails sounds to be a good number.
