    cPanel dns-only requirements

What are the minimum requirements for cPanel dns-only?
I didn't find that on cPanel space, I think they have only requirements for normal cPanel and cPanel vps-optimized, but what about this dns-only version.

I was thinking will it run on a vps with: 5GB disk space and 128MB burstable memory?

I don't think that'll be fine, it idles around 269mb ram usage.

Empty CentOS 5.3 Server with cPanel/WHM Installed.

    See Screenshot

eSited, that is for a standard cPanel server, DNS only is much lower, as its only runnning DNS, no MySQL, PHP, Email etc.

Your spec should be fine, we have a VPS with 5GB hard disk and 128MB RAM running cpanel DNS only and it works great.

The link on layer1.cpanel.net to layer1.cpanel.net/cpanel-dnsonly-install.sea seems to work to me. Was there some other link you were attempting to use that wasn't working?

something definitely wrong here as I have been trying several links several times over the past two days and each time including clicking the link kindly provided above, what I get is

Safari can’t open the page “http://layer1.cpanel.net/cpanel-dnsonly-install.sea” because Safari can’t find the server “layer1.cpanel.net”

    Firefox says...

    Address Not Found

Firefox can't find the server at layer1.cpanel.net.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

    * Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. "ww.mozilla.org" instead of "www.mozilla.org")
    * Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

Is the country I live in (Bahrain) blacklisted by cpanel or something?

It looks like your DNS can't find it, have you tried openDNS? http://www.opendns.com/ If you change your DNS servers to them it may work.

set opendns as the dns server on my router but still no joy so far...maybe some time is needed for cached stuff to clear.

Strange thing is that I have on problems getting to cpanel.net just can't get to layer1.cpanel.net.

Try 'ipconfig /flushdns' in command prompt.

dscacheutil -flushcache on a Mac running OS X 10.5.

    Done it ... no joy.

Have no problem reading about dns only here http://cpanel.net/products/cpanelwhm...-software.html. However when I click on the link at "You can download cPanel DNS ONLY here." which links to "http://layer1.cpanel.net/", I get a "not found" response.

wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/cpanel-dnsonly-install.sea is working from here.

you will need arround 256mb to run the installer, then you can tweak to use less 100mb (disable unused services like httpd)

Wgeting it from my US based server picks it up as well so I have the file.

I'll try it from another machine here to figure whether my specific machine has an issue

Min requirements, or actual-in-use requirements ?
3Gb HDD and 256Mb g'teed RAM works very well ...

IME there are "issues" with the interace becoming uncontactable and BIND randomly stopping/being restarted by the watchdog process at less than 192Mb of g'teed ram

Add more disk if you want to keep logs etc
