Best platform to build a review site on?
I think ive found a section of the internet which is very under developed, there are sites of the type scattered around, but general their review section is nothing more than a poorly constructed forum.
Im looking to make a much more proffesional site, like www.trustedreviews.com or www.reevoo.com where people can look under different categories, then filter results by price, average review rating, manufacturer ect.
Added into that, a user forum, a KB/wiki, the ability to find the nearest shop to you by postcode search, news section ect.
Now ill admit my best self produced website isn't that great so im looking for a package so to speak that will do this for me, with ease of customisation.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well, I don't know of any provider that would offer a package that would do this for you. Are you looking for a script that has all this in it to do it for you?It looks like you would need a custom designed site. As far as hosting/platform is concerned, with it being a new site, I would stick with shared hosting. There's no reason to pay for more than you need. When you first start out, you won't have any traffic until you promote it.

Actually I think there are more review sites for just about anything under the sun than you can shake a stick at - the problem is that most of them are dishonest/unreliable. If not that they simply don't have much content or many actual reviews of anything I've ever wanted a review on.
Most of the time when I want a review I check reviews.cnet.com and other such places where they have editorial reviews and a large userbase to comment on such reviews.█ Michael Denney - MDDHosting.com - Proudly hosting more than 37,700 websites since 2007.

Wekk thats what i thought, but when i went to look for a review site in this area I found, there was nothing!
I was hoping someone might have had experience with a CMS system, joomla for example, that way adding modules is easier ect.

You could use a cms type like Joomla, and have freelancers add functionality. Small functionality updates every month if you are on a small budget. Most freelancer sites are searchable, search those to find similar requests and pricing.
Anything else than shared hosting for a startup site is a waste of money, check some of those review sites to find a good shared host
I think the competition is harder than you would expect. Doing searches on Google reveals loads of review sites and you won't be competing against their quality, you would be competing against their Google rankings. Check KEI for terms that you would target so see the search engine competition.
Good luck!

Oh, just missed your post. Anyway, sorry I was under the impression that your site would be about hosting reviews. I retract the "loads of reviewsites" in my other post!

Maybe you will be the first and strike it big or maybe there simply isn't a demand for that particular topic. I guess the only real way to find out is by giving it a shot
As for the platform to run it on - I don't see why just about any shared hosting plan with just about any provider (do some research, look for some reviews of the provider here before you sign up) wouldn't meet your needs initially.█ Michael Denney - MDDHosting.com - Proudly hosting more than 37,700 websites since 2007.

Best platform to build a review site on
The best are Drupal and Joomla for me because they are excellent at managing content and easy to write templates/theme for.

I use Joomla and Typo3.
For easy of use and customising - go for Joomla.
For portal or blog-like website - some people use Wordpress (no personal knowledge).
Typo3 is considered to be secure, yet very hard and complicated.
My advice - Joomla.

Yes I prefer either Joomla, Drupal or Wordpress too. Typo 3 is really very complicated and confusing. My personal favourite will be Wordpress because it is so user friendly especially for bloggers.

I suppose firstly you need to find web application. That can be basic CMS as custom made one and then according to the made choice you need to start your searching. Useful to visit offers section here and the section called "FIND A HOST"
Good luck

I've done a review site and I used WP and then downloaded an engine, called reviewEngine, and then used one of the themes called reviewClean. It doesn't allow you the flexibility that perhaps you would like but it works for me.

I just google "top 10 web hosts" and click on the first one that comes up and go with that.
Hey, it's number 1, right? Why even look at number 2 (although there are sites for that also).
why re-invent the wheel?
