In order to install MySQL 5.1, you will need to upgrade your OS to Ubuntu 9.04, compile MySQL from sources or you could add additionals DEB repository to your APTís config:

append the following repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list files:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/monty/ubuntu gutsy main universe restricted multiverse
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/smurf/ubuntu gutsy main universe restricted multiverse

then install MySQL 5.1 using the following commands:

    apt-get update
    apt-get install mysql-server-5.1

    Hello,

You can even try sudo apt-get upgrade mysql-server.

    This should work
