Do you have SSH access to your server?

If so login and type these commands (assuming your server is Linux):

    /etc/init.d/apache stop

    Followed by:

    /etc/init.d/lighthttpd start

hi bikster, when I entered : /etc/init.d/apache stop
it gave me there is no such file or directory
when I just gave - /etc/init.d/ it said - its a directory but when entered apache stop it didn't accept it, saying no such file or directory

    so went into /etc/init.d/
    gave command - apache stop,
it says apache : command not found

using cent os 5.3 linux , 32bit on the system , on which I passed the above commands

Try to stop the apache service by using command,
    # /etc/init.d/httpd stop
    or
    # service httpd stop

Check the output of following command to get details regarding the network connections with lighttpd.

    netstat -plan | grep light

Oh sorry, my bad, it was httpd not apache. Although it could be apache2 as well if I'm not mistaken.

    Glad your problem was solved.

thanks for the ssh code mate - so again lighthttpd activated has been confirmed, the host might have activated it when he asked them probably..

    here this was the result:
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7758/lighttpd
    tcp 0 0 ip address:443 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7758/lighttpd

no probs blister didn't need to de-active it
