Connecting to alt3.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [216.239.59.27]:25 ... failed: Connection timed out (timeout=5m)
your IP aren't blacklisted. to it seems like a network error as your server can't reach Gmail's servers. it can happen due to large no of reasons. few of them

    * Remote host down( highly unlikely)
    * network problem on your end.run a traceroute to 72.14.247.114 to debug.
    * Firewall blocking

    Restart exim and then check.

BTW is it only gmail facing problem or other domains too?

    Code:

Do you have anything running like PortSentry or use iptables to place restrictions on IP's/routes that could have gotten in there somehow?

When all else fails and if you don't have time to troubleshoot:

    # /scripts/reseteximtodefaults

Although it smells more of a DNS thing.

Also, reverse lookups are working for your IP's, but you don't have any MX records which may be a part of the problem.

    Code:
    [email protected]~:$ dig alborznic.specialservers.net mx

    ; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> alborznic.specialservers.net mx
    ;; global options: printcmd

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;alborznic.specialservers.net. IN MX
Perhaps Google sees this lack of MX records as it relates to those two IP's?

The config for specialservers.net seems to be correct:

    Code:
    [email protected]~:$ dig specialservers.net any

    ; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> specialservers.net any

It's just a guess, simply because I used "any" and "mx" when I repetatively queried the domain and no responses were returned.

    Anyone else have suggestions?

Okay, I looked at the reverse entries for the two IP's in your first post.

Reverse lookup reveals PTR = alborznic.specialservers.net. for both IP's.

    dig -x 64.85.165.82

    ; <<>> DiG 9.3.4-P1 <<>> -x 64.85.165.82

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    82.165.85.64.in-addr.arpa. 43200 IN PTR alborznic.specialservers.net.

    ; <<>> DiG 9.3.4-P1 <<>> -x 64.85.165.83
    ;; global options: printcmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 24456
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:

    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    83.165.85.64.in-addr.arpa. 43200 IN PTR alborznic.specialservers.net.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Using 'dig alborznic.com mx" I found that the MX record is simply "alborznic.com" - this is where I became confused because 'dig -x 64.85.165.82' doesn't return a hostname that matches your MX record.

Would anyone care to constructivly criticize or support my assumption that this is a reverse dns thing? I imagine if you had your server provider change the PTR records to alborznic.com for your two IPs, that it could correct the issue.

I believe the MX record and RDNS must match to avoid trouble.

You will also need to place quotes before & after the SPF record, if I'm not mistaken.

    - I'm pulling this from http://network-tools.com/default.asp...=alborznic.com by the way.

Any number of these issues could be causing the problem.

Let me correct myself. As long as you've quoted the first and last line of the SPF in your DNS zone, then you're OK.

It's hard to tell who Google does and doesn't use as authoritative spam sources. No one here can give you that answer. However if you're listed, you should first ensure your server isn't spamming without you knowing it and then ask to be delisted from that spam list.

Generate exim stats using the 'eximstats' command to find the top users sending mail from your server.

If you are sure that your servers (both 64.85.165.82 and 64.85.165.83) aren't spam sources then take steps to delist the IPs.

As a temporary measure, you can even try changing the interface IP of Exim.

you main problem is in network.

If you can't telnet to google mail server IP's then how you want it to send mails.
Ask your hosting company about this. Say them that you can't telnet to google mail servers IP's on port 25.

Maybe they blocked google IP's to port 25.

    Successful telnet example:

    [email protected]:# telnet 72.14.247.114 25
    Trying 72.14.247.114...
    Connected to 72.14.247.114.
    Escape character is '^]'.
