    VPS with directadmin?

I'm looking for a VPS provider that offers directadmin and has a solid record regarding uptime. Searched here and haven't found one.

I really do not like cPanel/Plesk and much prefer directadmin.

    thanks

There's quite a few. Knownhost has some good reviews and they offer DA.

Most will get it for you although might be about $15 extra.

Have you tried searching the VPS offers forum for 'DirectAdmin'? There are quite a few decent providers in there. Whoever you pick, make sure you check their record on WHT!

I recommend, in no particular order: server complete, knownhost, and solarvps. All have DA available and all are reliable, customer-oriented providers. You can't go wrong with any of them.

DirectAdmin only costs around $7. And most VPS hosts offer DirectAdmin.

Actually, it's hit or miss with DA. I love DA, and sometimes I would have to forego using a host because they didn't offer DA. A lot of them do (for varying fees), but many do not. Some are cPanel or cPanel/plesk only. Liquidweb and WiredTree are the first to come to mind.

$7.00 is only the price if the host has sold over 20 of the licenses, otherwise its $14.

Yes, the typical price anymore for Direct Admin is $5-15/month Depending on the type of service.

Best of luck with your search.

Actually, DA is $5 for vps licenses (code 500 license), regardless of the number of licenses owned by the host.

What do you prefer about DirectAdmin over cPanel?

When I ask, it seems cPanel is the overwhelming favorite.

I was drawn to DirectAdmin because it's supposed to be very efficient on memory usage.

DirectAdmin is a nice panel. Personally I think it's easy to use, offers excellent value for money, it's lightweight and doesn't takeover your system so much cPanel is obviously the de facto standard and you can't go wrong with it either..

Although cPanel seems to be ubiquitous, being popular doesn't mean it's necessarily the best. It could be popular because it was the first one out the door or because of familiarity, fear-of-change, etc.

I prefer DA as do many of my clients. It's a more intuitive interface, less cluttered, admin/reseller/end-user panels are fully integrated, it is less resource intensive, it doesn't take over the server, it has true add-on domain capability with domain isolation (not using sub-directories within main public_html folder), and can do everything that cPanel can do, just more efficiently and elegantly (from sys admin standpoint).

Those are the reasons for our company to really stand behind the DA panel.

cPanel does not force subdomains to be within the public_html folder. While this is a default recommendation, simply change the document root to something else (e.g. ~/subdomain1 where ~ represents the cPanel user's home directory) to have the subdomain's content placed in a folder outside public_html.

This is a new feature as for years and years add-on domains were handled as subdomains creating extra ftp accounts and sudomain accounts of an addon domain that was not needed. If you want an addon domain, you don't necessarily want a subdomain and subdomain ftp with that.
