WHM error: Zone is owned by system

I just put a new server and testing a few sites on there but for some reason I cannot get them up. The sites will not appear in the browser despite being propagate for over 24 hours. I just attempted to delete and then re-add a dns zone for one of the accounts and I got the following message in whm...

    Add a DNS Zone
    Results of adding zone domain.com

    Zone created successfully for IP
    Zone is owned by system

The same IP that its trying to add is listed in WHM under " Main >> Server Configuration >> Basic cPanel/WHM Setup" under the 'Main Shared Virtual Host IP' option. What am I missing here?

    Hello,

Did you check if the nameserver IPs are correct.

Zone owned by system means the DNS zone was created by root.

If you create a user and assign a package to it then try to add the zone again and then select that user as the owner of the zone.

I always create a user and add accounts under it just.

Could be an issue with the nameservers. Any idea on how to fix this?

In WHM under "Main >> Server Configuration >> Basic cPanel/WHM Setup" it shows my two name servers in there and if I click on add "A" entry the correct IPs are ALREADY listed.

However if I go to.. "Main >> Networking Setup >> Nameserver IPs"
Neither of my nameservers are listed in there. I know for a fact after double and triple checking that the proper nameservers and IPs are set up with my registrar.

How can I get my nameservers to be listed in whm? If I type in the name server and hit the "Assign" button it just says its "Assigning IP address... and then never does anything.

A simple restart of Bind did the trick. It's seriously always the simple things that we often overlook. Mark this topic "Solved"
