I have setup a side server with Server 2003 Enterprise installed on it. The server is setup just facilitate a learning environment. I have installed Active Directory Service on the machine. Of course I am not apart of any domain thus I had to create one during setup. In the tutorials and such that I read they do not explain the DNS server in regards to active directory. I would like my server to be a domain controller which AD can then control the other computers in my house. I am struggling however with the DNS server.
I have the domain set as my privately owned domain ad.progtechindustries.com. However I do not know what to set as my forward and reverse dns zones to "see" my server or to make it seen by other computers when I join them to the domain. What do forward and reverse dns zones mean? How should I configure them to allow my server to use my domain name progtechindustries.com to play as a domain controller.
At this point in typing this up I believe I have even confused myself more, so I offer my apologies for the rough readthrough.
