    Is there a way to save video clips from YouTube?

    There is a video clip of Obama I want to save to my desktop. I want to keep it in case he flipflops on the issue, and tries to cover his tracks by deleting the one on YouTube. It is a video clip of himself that he is actually using on his own site.

    Obviously, he can just google for options. Is your post really necessary? He's looking for apps that people have actually used and are happy with.

    Yes, there are allot of apps to download Youtube (FLV) files to your PC. There are even some that will automatically convert the FLV into another format.

    Something that works very well for me, and I swear by is
    http://www.downloaderapp.com/youtube/

    You have an option. You can download the FLV, or you can download in higher quality as the MP4. Best of all, it's FREE!!

    Here you go, create a new bookmark in your browser and for the URL put:

    Code:
    javascript:window.location.href = 'http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id=' + swfArgs['video_id']+ "&l=" + swfArgs['l'] + "&sk=" + swfArgs['sk'] + '&fmt_map' + swfArgs['fmt_map'] + '&t=' + swfArgs['t'];
    When the vid is playing, just click it and a Windows box will pop-up allowing you to Save or Open With.

    Nothing to install and no third party site to rely on.

    Hey man! Thanks for that, it really works, no gimmicks, no ads, just download the vid to wherever you want it on your hard drive.

    Yes, considering you like it here's a small tweak which will allow you to download the High Definition version in MP4 rather than swf in case you want to burn the video to disk and watch it on TV or something:

    Code:
    javascript:window.location.href = 'http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id=' + swfArgs['video_id']+ "&fmt=18" + "&l=" + swfArgs['l'] + "&sk=" + swfArgs['sk'] + '&fmt_map' + swfArgs['fmt_map'] + '&t=' + swfArgs['t'];
    Edit: These will work without making a bookmark if anyone wants to just test them, when a movie is playing delete whats in the address bar and paste in this code and hit enter.

    1boss1 that's awesome. Thanks a lot for posting that.

    Got it added to my favorites, whenever I want a video, I just click into my favorites.

    Reminds me of http://www.getyourmms.com which is a web site I love for MMS.

    Any tools to download things that you're "supposed" to not be able to download can be pretty cool, as long as you are not infringing copyrights I suppose.

    You'll find a lot of add-ins that can do this but by far the best add-on for firefox is ByTubeD.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ube-video-dow/

    Once installed, it adds an option on the Tools Menu in Firefox.
    Simply select it and you'll see a whole list of available videos on the youtube page you're in, so you can select the ones you want and download in one swoop. Saves you a lot of time.

    Get the free version of Real Player. Then, when moving the mouse over the video streaming, a download button will appear just above the video. Then it's just as simple as clicking that and let Real Player do its job

    In the past it saved all videos automatically in the right format, somehow that changed (not sure why exactly) so what you need to do now to avoid strange characters in the file is type the desired file name of the video between " and " and make sure to include .flv

    That will save it smoothly and easily. Real Player has free and paid versions but the free one is working perfectly for YouTube videos

    I used Net Video Hunter. Its an addon for FireFox. It will blink beside your toolbar where also it shows the file size of the clip It will save in flv, mp4 also swf.
