I... got stuck in a lift today!
Today, I was out shopping with a friend and as the lift approached the floor, it jalted and stuck!
Rang the alarm, no answer after 4 attempts and then... finally someone answered and said "Are you joking? Are you messing around!?"
Bluntly, NO I'm stuck in your stupid lift.
After this, it took 48 minutes for them to get us out of the non-ventalated lift at the Trafford Centre!
Has anyone else ever been stuck in a lift?

I have a bad fear of heights, even taking elevators up in a building larger than 7 or so stories. I'm paranoid as it is... I feel worse after hearing this!

Glad to have been of assistance
It was already VERY hot in the Trafford Centre today, but stuck in a lift with two other people was just a joke.

Frankly, this is one of my worst nightmares. You do not want to be stuck in a lift with me, that is for sure

I've been stuck in a lift once. I was 36' in the air, when the control stick stopped working. My partner had to use the hydraulic emergency lowering valve. Then the big chore came after getting the lift down.
But, no... I've never been stuck in an elevator.

Yep.
I've been stuck in a lift 5 or 6 times.
The two worst events:
1) In a shopping centre and the power went out. This was before emergency lights were required, so I sat in the pitch black for about 3 hours with another person until the power came back on.
2) Another time was on a cruise ship - early hours of the morning in the lift from the night club (deck 14) to the deck where my cabin was (deck 6).
The seas were a bit rough that night. The ship lurched and the lift just stopped. There was nothing else to do but sit down on the floor and wait. Fortunately I was released before the pressure from all those drinks upstairs became too much

I got stuck on that exact lift, except a spot where its higher up from the ground (at least 50 ft) for about an hour. It was in a standing lift though, they changed the cars, so it had a place in the middle to stand with open around the edges, so if i slipped, i would have fallen right out the bottom. Worst part was it was windy, so the thing I was in was rocking back and forth.

As a kid I pressed the stop button in one turns out that they had to call the firefighters to get it working, then I got a $100 fine. was stuck in there for about 30 minutes.

Jeez. took 48 min to get service???
Law suit? I'd be pretty angry. I always believed emergency situations like those called for response times within 15 minutes? I assumed they had staff members?

The Trafford Centre "Take pride on their customer service and satisfaction" but they didn't call anyone in, it was their own guys.
Took 3 times to get through, the fourth time the guy said "Are you taking the piss or something!?" and then when he finally realised we WERE stuck, it took a good 40 minutes, no air con, very stuffy. They didn't even check if we were alright or anything.
Hoping for lots of gift vouchers having sent them an email
