Elitehost issue [Split from old thread]

I had my site with Elitehost for a couple of years without much problem.

Recently, without notice, myself and my site visitors were confronted with the following message when any page was accessed..

Our records indicate that you are on a hosting plan that is no longer available.

Due to the downfall in the economy, EliteHost has reorganized it's price plans.

We are no longer offering the yearly plans. You will need to convert to a month
to month plan to resume your service, regardless of your existing plan with us.
[Our terms of service states that we can change price plans at any time.]

Please DO NOT open up a support ticket on our website disputing this. The only
way to re-activate your account is to follow the instructions below. We will only
respond to your support tickets once your account is re-activated OR if you
are having trouble re-activating your service using the methods below.

Having paid up front for hosting with this company, They suspended the site with the above message.
Requesting more money before the site is reinstated.

They have my email address on file and could have made contact over the price increase?

I paid an additional fee to be able to access the site and download up to date back up. Moved to other hosting and cancelled my Paypal subscription.

Wow, that's pretty terrible to hear. They just suspended your website and then charged you to get your data, even after you paid for a years worth of service. The LEAST they could have done was email you and let you know and give you between 30-60 days to find a new provider if you didn't want the upgrade.

Well they did not charge me to get my data, but I had to create a monthly paypal subscription, make first months payment,to get back into the site, then wait for them to reinstate it, so that I could get back in to Cpanel, and download the up to date SQL Database for five years of data for a community forum.

The process eventually caused disruption to the site for 7 days, (and 7 days work for me)

I did creat a support ticket, but heard nothing.

Hello,

I think there is some confusion. Your host is elitehost.net while we are elitehostS.COM There is no relationship between elitehost.net and elitehosts.com

All the best,

Thank you MaB, for clarifying that, Yes I can confirm that it is ELITEHOST.NET, I was not aware there are two companies of that name. Unfortunate for you.

The only thing I would correct you on "My(Ex)Host"

Searching the text from the suspended page on Google brings up a number of victims.

I had a client sign up a few days ago coming from elitehost.net for the same problem. Sad to see that they are doing this to their customers. It's obviously hurting their business more than helping.

The approach sounds quite terrible, and frankly, counterproductive as well. A customer with a suspended account due to an issue like this is very likely to be leaving first chance he gets. Makes no sense.

I still see some yearly pricing on their site?

I agree, the correct approach IMO would be too enforce the changes at the start of the next billing cycle. Sounds like they have sold alot of yearly plans but blown all the money now.

That explains ALOT.

Yesterday I had a customer who said he was transferring from this host because of the same problem. He rapid fired a series of questions to me including...

If I changed my plans, would I suspend his account until I change plans (Until now, I did not understand why he asked as I have never heard if this being done).

I am sorry for the OP's issue, I find this hosts actions disturbing and I would pack up and leave the first chance I got.

My guess, watch the 'For Sale' forum in a few weeks time.

How anybody running a business can treat there clients this is simply beyond my comprehension.
