Windows Managed VPS in UK

Hello

I'm looking for recommendations please for a UK based, managed Windows VPS.

Bandwidth: > 20GB - only use 7GB at the moment
Disk Space: > 1GB - again dont use alot, for VPS I know we need OS space too
RAM: > 512MB however really looking for 1GB - performance is critical

Only wish to deal with large, reputable companies. Our business is the website so reliability is most important. Looking for good things ie RAID-10 or RAID-5, SAS maybe, equal CPU share, no overselling, pro-active monitoring preferred, daily backups we can access (could always buy some cheap hosting and schedule a backup via FTP every night), good 24/7 support - preferably livechat/phone as don't want to be waiting around for a ticket or email to be answered.

Budget is under £50 p/m, ~ $80 p/m. If I cannot get the above, would at least like to see what I can get for the money. Poundhost are £27 p/m however its not managed, they tick the other boxes though.

Your suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks

You should be able to get basic managed for around £40 inc vat
with 512MB memory / 20GB disk space but you wont get much management for that.

I wouldnt just look at the large companies either, you tend to get more support for your money with the smaller (but still reputable) businesses.

Your budget is perfect for a fully managed VPS with 1 GB RAM. Checkout the WHT VPS offers section, you would get the right package.

I know your sort of implying yourself here - with your sister company atm but they (and i assume you) limit the number of emails sent per hour so... not exactly suitable. 500 I believe is the limit. Although thats not an issue now, we want to send automated reminders to our customers and that would involve running a cron over a few hours to split the emails up. I'd like to be able to send them all in one go - and these are to users of our service, ie not spam at all.

Most of the offers section is small companies. I don't mean to cause any offence but I'm not after a small fly-by-night that might go bust etc. Going with a large provider (like Poundhost), I fell secure knowing they are in their own proper data center and not just resellers of others.

Looking for recommendations if possible?

psmith, there are other factors to consider when looking at "larger" companies.

For example, you do tend to lose some of the humanistic, personal touch that "smaller" companies usually provide.

I would also suggest that you contact individual companies to find out just how big they truly are. The answers could very well surprise you.

Other things to consider: How long as the company been operational under their current name? Have they been in operation under another name previously? How many employees? How many facilities?

I can pretty much guarantee that you'll probably get more personalized services with a smaller company than a bigger one.

And they can easy match your price if you use one of their offers.

Well, Douglas, SolarVPS is on our list, was speaking to someone last night from your organisation. I consider yourselves to be large enough.

Take a look at clustered.net if you want a VPS but IMO you should buy a dedicated server.

No windows and a managed dedicated server would be far more expensive!

Depends on what you call "far more expensive". You said your entire business is based on a website, didn't?

Well there is not that unusual WHT posts whining downtime compromising business yet the OP paying few bucks for a core service.

Make sure you get a MS VPS which can't be oversold on the RAM and can reserve CPU resources for you. You might need to pay around 60 GBP for a 1GB MS 2003 / 2008 VPS based in the UK.
