Managed Dedi/VPS for a reseller?

Hi,
Is there anything like that?
A reseller wants to be alone, server resources, dedicated IP, etc. while doesn't have Sys Admin nor Server management knowledge..
Is there a dedicated/VPS that is fully managed from the Hardware, OS, up to System Admin level, leaving the reseller to just use his reseller account on it?

What is the name of such package? under what name should he look for it? how different is it from Managed dedicated/ VPS?

Thank you so much for guidance

You can have WHM/cPanel installed on both Dedicated and VPS hosting. This would be the same setup as a reseller but you would have root access and full control to install anything. You can get fully managed services from many hosts. They would install anything you need, secure your server and maintain it for you.

Look around in the Offers Section of the forums, there are plenty of reputable hosts there that can offer fully managed Dedicated/VPS services with WHM/cPanel.

Are both safer to go with, the VPS and Dedicated? I mean regarding spam blacklisting affected by the network I am part of? Or as long as any has a dedicated IP I am ok, even that VPS is sharing the same machine, and the Dedicated shares the network/DC hub?

I say this because we suffered a lot from being on shared hosting .. becoming on spam blacklists, etc..

If you have a dedicated IP, you will not get blacklisted if someone in the same server spams and gets blacklisted. However, if you share the same IP as the site that is spamming, yours will get blacklisted as well.

Well on the dedicated server or on the VPS you will be able to install all what you need to be installed. No difference what it is dedicated server or VPS.

If there's no server management knowledge, why not try an affiliate program then?

I think you'd better get a managed service. The thread looks too confused and I think that if you get unmanaged service, this would bring you some troubles.

Very good HostColor, he already said he wants a manged server...

As far as getting blacklisted. Usually when you get a dedicated server you get at least one dedicated IP, but, average that I've seen is 4. And with a VPS you usually get at least one, but usually 2.

You can get plans where the VPS / Dedi are just replacements for the normal shared server. All other services are provided by the host. There is no need to login to the VPS / Dedi as you can manage everything from a control panel. Your host can manage all settings / updates on the server.

I see some customers prefer that, in fact, it's our preferred way too. It keeps customers out of trouble. Just ask for a fully managed server at a good vendor, you will be fine. Do not go with "cheap managed server" vendors, you will have trouble. Cheap and management is not going together.

Cool

Agreed, most VPS hosts including http://www.hostforweb.com offer full set-up and management of your VPS. If you didn't use the extra features of the VPS you would hardly know you weren't a reseller.
I have used them several times for non-production "test" stuff and just told them how I wanted everything configured (and I have asked for some strange set-ups) and they did it-no problems; even though they knew I'd just be using it a few months at most.

So for a normal customer they would get you all set up and you would be good to go with your own IP's like said above (they provide 3)
The only thing different you would need to do being on VPS is ask with a support ticket if you wanted updates to the OS or other things on the VPS (where on reseller you just get the version of everything they run on the reseller server, you have no choices like on VPS).
At least the company I mentioned will do it for you as part of their management. They take care of all that stuff you might not know how to do; but you would have to ask because they have no way of knowing if you have a program that depends on version X of something instead of the new X.1 version so they wouldn't just change without your permission by asking for the upgrade (other than auto-upgrades you can set most control panels to do).

One thing I would recommend you do is ask your prospective VPS/Dedi host what they cover in management. Some company's have different ideas of what fully managed means...

To me, that means they will do anything you ask them to do. But, to some companys, that means they will do x, y, and z. But not l, f, or s.

Make sure you find a host that will do anything and everything you ask them to do.

As DDT said, the main difference is you'll have to update things yourself or submit a ticket to have them upgraded. Unlike shared accounts, the host will not go in and change anything on your server without your permission/you asking them for it.
