Looking for hosting for 7+ websites (asp.net and php)

I am looking for a new host where I can move all my websites to. Right now, my websites are split between mosso (for windows), webfaction (for php/django), and 1and1 (for an old site). I have 5 sites on mosso and each of those require an MSSQL database, which is an extra $5 per db.

Thus, I'm paying around $150 per month for hosting. I want to cut this down to around $70-80. None of these websites are high-traffic, and if once of them becomes high traffic I want the ability to expand somehow (buy a new dedicated server, another vps, be on a "grid").

I've looked at gogrid ($67 a month for a 512 vps + ability to expand) and some of the cheaper dedicated servers at serverbeach. I also have my own licenses for windows server, mssql, and exchange, which could reduce the hosting cost.

Preferably, I'd like windows 2008, and mssql standard 2008.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good host?

I'd say stick with a bunch of VPS containers, then may use hsphere or the likes? I also read that Cartika is pretty good.

I'd be fine with any of those, as long as the price was right and
I'd be able add as many mssql databases as I wanted, and I could host an unlimited number of sites.

Considering the scalability factor, I would rather recommend you to go for VPS since I believe you require unlimited ms sql databases and unlimited websites since it will be most generally not possible to find a reliable host satisfying both of the above requirements simultaneously in a shared hosting environment.

I was leaning towards vps. Is gogrid a good one, is there a cheaper windows vps provider?

I've heard good things about CrystalTech & AppliedI and they have been into business since long with good reputation. Hence, you can consider them for your requirements.

I believe, you should be good with a Windows shared hosting package since windows will allow you to host .net and php websites both. If you wish to lower your budget, try finding a host that charges less for mssql databases, as that is something that may affect your budget.

If they are not high traffic web sites than you can host it unlimited shared hosting plan. With 70$ i think you can rent a Dedicated server.

yes, but can you manage, secure, firewall protect, 24x7 monitor and respond and backup that $70 server?

shared hosting often has many benefits over lowe end dedicated servers. just has to be the right shared hosting environment ..
