best or official "whois" search?
I do a "whois" search on my domain, and I get different results on different "whois" search sites. What is the best or offical "whois" site to view my most current domain info? Thanks!

Probably the whois at the registrar where your domain is registered.

What is the domain? Perhaps you bought it at a registrar reseller so then youy'd need to go to the source.

yes, I've tried it. My old nameservers (from my registrar) show up. Im assuming this is normal-I changed the nameservers on 11/02/02 around 10am. How long does it usually take for the nameserver info to update once I've changed it?

Normally between 24-72 hours, but I've never waited more than 24 for the update...
Just fooling around...

I'm sorry... you're getting DIFFERENT results on different whois lookups? There should only be two possibilities:
1) Some whois lookups are more complete than others. Some basically just give the registrar and expiry date. Others give that plus the admin contact. Some give the admin, billing, and tech contacts. The AMOUNT of information given is often different, but not the information itself!
2) If you have made any changes, it takes up to 72 hours for all registries to update. In this instance only could you have different information. There is no longer a single database used for whois information, so some get updated earlier than others.
Now, if you aren't referring to either of these possibilities, I'm assuming you just registered the name and might have a little dispute going on. In that case, you need to contact your registrar to see what's going on. This is very rare.

these two should work;
http://www.internic.net/whois.html
http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois
And if they don't, look for this kind of line;
Whois Server: whois.SOMEREGISTRAR.com
That is the registrar you registered the domain. Then go to that registrar's web site and find the whois link. There you should find the exact whois for that domain ...hopefully

You can also try:
http://www.whois.sc
I use this since it gives me a little more information than just who the registrar/contacts/nameserversGary H

A good place to try using is http://www.dnsstuff.com/
It automatically tries to use the correct registrars info, lots of other good stuff on the page as well.

Internic.net works the best, however, from time to time, the server is sometimes down.
In that case, I would recommend NetSol.com. Their WHOIS is more complete and has more features than the plain-jane Internic whois.
