I'm looking a cheap dedicated server for my needs, $120/mo
I'm looking for a dedicated server for my needs for ~$120/mo. I know that's cheap, but I really need it and that's all I can afford right now. I need a server that can serve my website, a high traffic site, and a possible game server in the future. I'll need plenty of hard drive space as well. I am switching all my emails to my bryce[at]bryceeason[dot]net email and need a server that is up and I know will be up 99.9% of the time so that I don't lost any emails. Anyone got any recommendations?
Also, would it be cheaper to buy cPanel/WHM from the cPanel company or from a host?

I would recommend taking a look at the Dedicated Offers Section. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36 Regarding cPanel, it is usually cheaper to get it from the host rather than directly. It's usually around $25/mo. Do you have a preference for location?

No preference for location, just as long as it's in the US.

I'd definitely recommend getting it from the host in most cases due to the cheaper internal licensing prices which they offer it at. There's bound to be an offer within your budget around the Dedicated Offers forums.

Depending on the company, you can find cPanel for as low as $19.95/mo. So it's definitely cheaper than buying direct.

I highly recommend getting a managed service especially if you need assistance with server tasks.
Best

$120 with cPanel is possible as long as it's unmanaged.
Increase your budget to $150 - $180 for a managed server.

You mentioned that your site is a high bandwidth site -- do you have an idea as to how much transfer/bandwidth you require?

I have a similar server to that with HVC.
HVC is great.
HVC does help you with anything you need in live chat - tickets even tho your server is not managed.
If they can, they will help, if its something big, you can always ask ppl here in the forums or hire (one time Admin company to do the task).
I am recommending HVC.

if u have everything configured on your server, u'll receive 5% of total spam.
when i take out spamassassin and some other rules on the firewall, i get 100 spams each hour. if not, a few per day.
