Getting your First Visitors
I have faced this situation many times. I made a Small website,Write Content,Optimize it. Now how do i get that initial traffic? in other words how do i announce that "hello!, i have this and this website. please have a look!".
One Quick option comes to my mind is Adsense, but Adsense can be quite expensive for startup websites. also, there is a problem of trust. users don't trust sponsored link vs natural links.
what other Tools/Methods you guys use to get that initial traffic?

It depends, I usually will launch an ad campaign, but if I am on a tight budget I usually start off with word of mouth (chat messengers), and then post it on lots of forums.

Setup your META tags properly and give your pages good titles. Submit to the major search engines, and local directories such as yellowpages / bloo / etc... Leave some links on forums....

I mainly use forums too. I have a few friends that make accounts (and they know the right people to mention it to). I mainly just use word of mouth.

You should advertise on websites that are related to what you offer. Go on msn and talk with people. and just know people.

Having run many site over many years, it really does depend on your type of site and how badly you want visitors. The main thing I have learned when using paid advertising specifically is do not overpay just to get your first visitors. Its easy to get plenty of visitors fast if you pay enough. Be patient and focus on other free solutions and the traffic will grow if you have good content.

Do you mean AdWords? Because having AdSense would not bring any traffic to your site. I personally would recommend link exchanges and forum signatures for free traffic. If you have a MySpace or Facebook profile, put it there too.

I always use Yahoo Answers to get new sites kick-started. If you do it right you'll get some initial traffic, plus your site will be indexed very quickly.

4. Join Forums (I guess you did that already )
5. Put some money in Adwords
6. Some ads on related forums
7. Some ads on your locally famous site
8. Do some SEO yourself and Get external company to do SEO after year or two.
9. Advertise in social networks like Facebook etc etc.

If you've some extra budget then you can launch your ad campaign. and if you're having a security guard sitting on ur pocket then use the 'word of mouth' for getting visitors.

Social networking and bookmarking can help you drive more traffic too. Make friends and build a trusting relationship can help a lot.
