Questionable Ethics at Hivelocity
I am very disappointed with business practices at Hivelocity. I rent a budget server from them and always pay on time.
Last week I received a reminder claiming an unpaid invoice and was threatened twice my service would be terminated if I would not pay. I checked my debits and all hosting invoices were paid.
I noticed they have sent me another invoice for a remote reboot feature for 3$. I have never ordered such feature and I am very surprised they dare to invoice me for a service I never ordered.
Unless this was an error, I find this very shady to be invoiced for items I never ordered - Yet, to be threatened disconnection of paid services. Neither an explanation why i was invoiced for unwanted items nor an apology was offered. They said I could cancel the service ... but why would I need to cancel an order I never made?

It does sound odd people paying for work not done. In this case I'm sure its a bug in their automatic billing software or an administration error. They have a very go reputation and I think you should shoot them an email to resolve this issue but please keep us posted.

Why not call and have them take out the charges. These stupid automatic reminders some times annoy, I am sure they will gladly resolve once they realize the problem.

I don't see how this is related to Ethics in any way. Seems more like a billing mistake which caused the automated system to send out warnings.
Have you tried contacting HiVelocity about it before posting here?

Better open a ticket with their billing dept.
They may not even be knowing that such bills & automated reminders have been sent

If anyone is being charged $3 per month for remote reboot and they do not want the feature please just email me directly and I will see the service is canceled with no hassle what-so-ever. I am sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused you.
I did PM the OP on this previously offering to help and never did hear back.

Its a pity not all providers can resolve a problem so quickly.

But what caused the clients to be invoiced without using a reboot request, is that a billing system error?. Just to clarify, what is the need to cancel the entire reboot request feature instead of correcting the error.
Or is that a charge per month which is applied whether that facility is used or not?

I don't see why they have to email you, if you can cancel that from your hivelocity's control panel.
It could be a software mistake, not big deal..

Like Steve said just send him and e-mail and Im sure they will take care of it for you. Hivelocity has a pretty good reputation and this doesn't sound like a very big deal.
Most likely it was just a bug in their automatic billing system that caused it.
My suggestion would be to give them a call / e-mail next time and give them a chance to straighten it out before bad mouthing them here on WHT. This way your problem would be resolved much quicker.

Was remote reboot an addon feature which was enabled by default for all the Hivelocity customers and hence they all got $3/month bill?
