Data Center Physical Access Best Practices

I am revamping our DC Access Procedure, really starting from scratch since there is no current documentation of the process, and looking for some best practice ideas.
Anyone have any good links or willing to share their own procedures (minus any sensitive info) ?
This is not a collo facility, rather we are a corporate data center with several locations. We have 24/7 manned security to utilize.

Biometric scanner. We are opeing new space and besides bio scanner each access badge has the person photo and name on it. Helps prevent someone from using someone elses badge.

Try this link for a basic guideline from SAS70:

I'm not affiliated with the link above.

We sign out badges on an as needed basis. If somoene is listed as approved Vendor or Customer then they can sign out a badge. We keep there Drivers licence while they are in the DC. This allows our NOC Techs to know when they have issued out a badge and then they can keep a closer eye on the Video while someone is in the DC. So someone gets a badge and it is documented what badge that person has so we can go to the badge logs if needed. We also try to decrease as much foot traffic as possable from non NOC Techs so for basic reboots or a cable run anything like that we do ourselfs.

Biometrics can be expensive. I would say proxy badges, physical security, and notice from approved managers would be sufficient?
