any suggestions for who to choose for host (shared)?
hi
i have a couple of small sites and the host i originally signed up with was bought over, they then matched the original price for a year and now they want to put it up by £100 for the next year's hosting (when i questioned this they said i was getting a discount as it is and it should be about £300). LOL!!
So - i'm now looking for a new host BUT my problem is that the original package was a reseller one but my requirements aren't much at all.
I'm looking for 2GB space, 5-10GB bandwith and cpanel and WHM (and ideally a unique IP for SSL)!
(i like being able to set each account up with a separate cpanel account and have got used to that so would prefer that to continue with WHM access - although i don't actually resell anything myself at all now)
So can anyone point me in the right direction. I've looked through the 'offers' sections on this forum and others but keep going around in circles.
I guess what i need is a host that's small enough to provide custom packages and care about effectively allowing WHM access on a non-reseller account but reliable enough and with some track-record.
Any ideas at all?
(i need to find somewhere soon so i can tell the current host where to go)
thanks in advance

I believe this should be posted in the "Reseller Hosting" section of this forum. However, to point you to a few which I have personal experience with are Hostgator and Lonex.
http://www.hostgator.com
http://resellers.lonex.com
Both have good support as far as my experience goes and tickets were responded to promptly. Both uses CPANEL and WHM for their reseller accounts. Should do fine with you. Hope this helps.

Honestly, your requirments are not much at all. Sounds like you don't need a billing software, which most hosts include with their packages for free (which actually drives the price up a little).
Which country are you looking to have your sites hosted in?
If you are looking for east coast US, you can look at Surpass Hosting

The shared hosting market is so very saturated, that I would probably get stuck and keep spinning my wheels and would end up just digging myself a very large hole I personally was looking for shared hosting. Do not end up like me!
Your needs are met by most hosting companies.
You can usually purchase a dedicated IP addresses for a SSL certificate for between .75 and $1.50 per month.
With the small amount of space/bandwidth your requesting, you're only looking at paying between 5-7$ per month, which should include the price for the dedicated IP address. If you're paying much more then that, I'd say shop around.

You'll be looking for a reseller plan if you require WHM. Most hosts will offer a dedicated IP for an additional monthly fee. Some may even offer it for free but you're going to have to do some shopping around.

Thanks for all the replies but hopefully you'll also see my problem:
Hostgator - starts at $24.95 for 24GB space
Lonex - from $20 for 35GB
surpasshosting - $20 for 50GB
and most other sites are similar in their pricing - but i'll never use a fraction of the space so would rather not pay for it.

Currently, the site is hosted in the UK - but location is non-essential.
The main thing is finding a host that will allow WHM for a small reseller account / non-reseller account. And i can't find any at the moment at all.
when you're used to separate cpanel accounts, going back to add-ons isn't feasible. (I could always move them to my resellerzoom account but prefer a separate backup account for stuff ... mainly email)

The tough part is you want WHM in the package. Something which I see is only available with Reseller Accounts. Personally I have not come across any shared hosting provider that gives WHM as part of its package.

i know - hence my problem.
but i think the price i was given (of £120 a year, compared to a previous price of £25) for 2GB space and 20GB bandwith (my current package) is a little steep by anyones standard - it's quite a premium to have to pay for WHM access (which i understand will have negligible effect to the price for the host anyway. I suspect all it does is make the total usage slightly more likely - but with addon domains even that's debatable)
(incidentally it might be a niche in the market for someone - being able to give family members or friends a separate account altogether and having control over the resources etc. Might also make it more likely to remain with their host - given the lack of other firms offering it)

So other than having to be able to create separate cPanel accounts with WHM, do you have any other specific uses for WHM?
How many domains/sites do you intend on hosting?

None at present. Actually it's almost laziness on my part so i can just create the relevant accounts and upload the cpanel backups when i move.

Perhaps you can contact a company who can offer you shared hosting but allow you to access WHM. With certain limitations such as the number of domains/accounts you're allowed to create you can probably cut down your costs for a reseller plan.

I can recommend surpasshosting.com for a reseller if that is what you want. I was using them before getting my own servers. Support is top notch. They're a division of HostDime, which owns their own datacenter in Orlando, Fl, USA. I actually have my servers in that DC and while I was in Germany visiting some people from my old unit (from when I was in the army not too long ago) the loading speed was great.
