Are you limited to only the planet or do you have any location preferences? I'd recommend trying the "FIND A HOST" option here on the top of WHT and see what kind of offers you get from vps providers in The Planet DCs however.

Good luck!

I'm sure judging by my username you know you are my current host, right?

I was looking to possibly switch at the end of the month, but of course I'll keep working towards getting the VPS working properly until then. We'll have to see if the automatic service restart script improves things (although it'd be nice to figure out the root problem).

If you don't mind me asking, why specifically ThePlanet? You kind of handicap yourself if you force yourself to look for a provider from one specific company.

Well, Texas for sure. If I change my VPS host it would be to a Texas location. The Planet because I have prior experience with the datacenter, they have been a solid provider for many many years and have premium bandwidth. I'm not 100% limited, but it'd definitely be my first choice.

Frankly, it's healthy to limit your options to data center facilities that have proven themselves over time. While there are other facilities that are as prestigious, some time it's best to avoid the unknown.

I suggest you call ThePlanet and ask for a list of VPS resellers stating that you're interested in purchasing service from them. TP will usually recommend partners that are in good standing with the facility.

Best

In that case, take a look at Knownhost (be sure to select TX), Tektonic, and Slicehost. Both Knownhost and Slicehost are excellent, there are plenty of reviews of all 3, just search the Forums.

Both Knownhost and Tektonic are in Colo4Dallas and Slicehost is putting all new customers in one of Rackspace's datacenters (DFW-1).

KnownHost & FutureHosting, both reputable VPS providers, have their servers at Texas. Both are using Colo4Dallas, with excellent network too.

You can also look for VPS providers in SoftLayer's DC (HawkHost for example), as they are just as good as them.

Is The Planet not as popular as I thought or is it difficult to provide VPS out of their datacenter? I thought this would be an easier request.

Though other TX providers are certainly worth looking into.
