There was a laundry list of points SL stated they could not meet.

No. We moved WHT to isolate it from our primary network.

    Thumbs up

Is this the first site from iNet not hosted at Rackspace? Wonder what discounts Softlayer gave.

Will that be changed to "powered by SoftLayer" instead now?

hahah good luck. From my dealings with hundreds of large sites.... there are a lot better providers then softlayer.

I find it kind of pointless to separate the two, considering its still connecting to mysql, with added latency thrown in the mix.

Whoever thought this up is a major lol.

Steve - let's be honest here, no matter what WHT/INET did, you'd have some smart arsed and contradictory remark.

They can't do any right in your eyes.... we get it.

It's been a little slower for me. I'm guessing the servers are West US (if I remember correctly, that's where the Soft Layer DC is).

SoftLayer has 3 DC's so it's hard to know which one it's in. I'm guessing Dallas. But, they also have Seattle and Washington D.C.

It was a good idea to separate the old stuff and take it offline. I'm guessing it was a hellavulot cheaper to replicate the setup at softlayer than rackspace.

As for softlayer being an unmanaged provider, I doubt there's much they can do for the wht community except keep the lights on for now.

To me it's slower than molasses, also whatever is getting pulled from hostingcatalog.com is hanging the pages even further.

Scratch what I said about speed earlier - loading up threads is mainly ok (although does slow down sometimes), but, replying takes forever in some cases.

I'm from Dallas so I'm familiar with the area. It showed that the server was on Stemmens Pkwy which is where the InfoMart is located (where most hosting companies in Dallas are located).

Racksapce is also in Texas, I can't imagine how it can be that slow.

They also have multiple DC's. I'm not understanding why it's slow too. Maybe we're on a bad switch or something?

All Softlayer IP's will display the address in Dallas. But, as you said this server is in texas.

WebHostingTalk used to be hosted in a Virginia facility (IAD) of Rackspace, not Dallas. Technically that adds about 30-40ms for some folks.

For what it's worth though, WHT doesn't load slow at all for me.

I haven't noticed any difference in load speed times since the move of the main site to SL.

For me in South Florida, Boca Raton to be exact, the website is loading significantly faster.

All of my sites are hosted at Softlayer. Personally, I like Softlayer a lot, although I just signed on with The Planet as well.
