Interesting video, but I'm not at all surprised that happened.

Wow, I didn't even know you HAD to report $4,700...

Last time I checked was that if you had over $5k it had to be reported.

Seems more and more that the people charged with enforcing the law don't actually the know law.

In this case, these airport security didn't have the powers to enforce the law, in fact it sounded like they didn't know jacksh*t of what they were allowed by law to do.

Wake up America....the Police State has you by the gonads.

Independence, MO is one of the so-called "meth capitals" of the world so I'm not surprised that in a St. Louis, MO airport they questioned him about the cash.

Regardless of the laws, I think this guy should know that incompetence runs rampant in the Airport system. He should know that somebody would try to mess with him if he was carrying that much money. I mean that is probably more than any of those workers make in several months! They might have stopped him simply out of jealosy!

I have two few questions...

- Who are the TSA? I.e are they like immigration, security or the police?
- Do they have powers of arrest/detain

I think what this gentlemen has asked in a goo question, what is his rights?

If I'm going to search or ask questions to a citizen and they ask what legislation I am using I should be able to answer that.

The job of TSA to ensure the safety of airlines and passengers - to ensure that dangerous people or substances don't get on a plane. It is more than just making sure that your papers are in order. The 9/11 hijackers had their papers in order. If something about you raises a red flag they can keep you off the plane until they are satisfied that you pose no risk. Refusing to answer questions isn't going to help you make your plane. $5000 in cash is out of the ordinary, possibly drug money, & raises a red flag. White folks want stereotypical dark skinned Muslims doubled-checked but not themselves.

I cross the southern border regularly, and sometimes get jerks, but the best policy is always to co-operate and say yes sir no sir three bags full sir.

I think there are two faults in the video...

First of all the bloke should have just answered the questions, they are pretty basic questions that I would be more than happy to answer if I spoke to the authorities. If you avoid those questions you're going to end up with tax, security, police and a number of other authorities getting involved to find out what you're up to.

The second fault is that the TSA should have read him his rights, if he didn't want to give them the answers then the TSA have a duty of care to the passengers to allow those with powers to do a bit more digging. However their attitude and swearing was unprofessional and not needed.

Thats all you had to do in Nazi Germany also, until they got unrealistic about it. The point is to stand up to them when you can to make sure it never goes that far.

This also wasnt cross borders, it was the center of the country on a non-international flight. The FBI agent that finally showed up and told them to let him go was the smartest of the bunch.

DEA.. yeah, whatever..lol. If the TSA agents actually knew what they were doing, they would have known that since it is under $5000 they had no right to question him about it. Laws are there to protect the innocent from idiots like these TSA agents.

They tried to intimidate him into answering the question. I would have done the same thing, it's none of their business what he's doing with the cash. Their job is to make sure that nothing dangerous gets on the plane, $4700 is hardly dangerous.

Not enough people stand up for liberty.

I kind of agree. He came off as a bit of a smart arse. If he had of answered some basic questions, that weren't infringing upon any of his civil rights, he would have been on his way.
