"You may never buy a new video card ever again."
Quote:
You may never buy a new video card ever again. Actually, the only PC gaming hardware you might ever need will cost you less than a Wii, should OnLive's potential live up to its promise.
OnLive is a new video games on demand service that may just change the way you play PC games. The brainchild of Rearden Studios founder Steve Perlman, formerly of Atari, Apple, WebTV and more, and Mike McGarvey, formerly of Eidos, the technology looks to revolutionize the way computer games are brought home. Instead of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on the latest video game hardware that will make games like Crysis playable at nearly maxed settings, let OnLive's servers handle the processing. All that's required is a low cost "micro console" or a low end PC and a broadband internet connection.

Thanks for the reference. It is very interesting. Right now, I wouldn't be inclined to go that route, but who knows. I'm fickle.

hmmm...interesting concept, but it I'm unsure of how it will actually preform.
"For HDTV Quality, you'll need at least 5Mbps down"
ISP's are complaining now about the bandwidth we're using...imaging adding a few thousand people all using around 5Mbps for several hours per day.

lol Ryan. Amen eh. I think my wife has come to the realization that I constantly waste too much money on my gaming PC.
I'm capped at 90GB/month downloading as it is with my ISP and I always come close to that. Something like this would kill my usage!

Bandwidth must be THROUGH the roof!
I really hope they DO NOT make the price like XBOX live membership...for the sake of their benefit I hope they charge more because I wouldn't mind paying more. This is great news!
I am really hyped up.
EDIT: Anyone if this company has a stock symbol to the public?

Beta-Testing supposedly begins in late april, or at least they will be providing information regarding testing to the public beginning late April.
This info is from a friend that has been following this for the past year or so.

I'd still buy video cards. Why? Because I don't want to based it off my internet connection (which sucks). I'd rather just play games on my computer.

Anyone on Comcast needs to be careful, especially if Comcast is the only viable broadband option. A while back Comcast switched to limited bandwidth usage from their previous unlimited setup. I think if you exceed your limit you get one warning, then after that they literally give you the boot and you cannot get another Comcast account for a significant amount of time. That's pretty much how I recall it being with them.
Anyhow, this new video game service is a pretty interesting concept. I'm no longer into gaming, but would be a good option if I ever wanted to try out some of the newer games.

Yup, the Cable companies basically killed off the chances of the Internet replacing them...
I'm at 90GB / month and that doesn't get me very far. Between YouTube, Itunes, gaming, work, etc it adds up pretty quick.

Looks like it would be really good, but can't see it working on my flaky connections though

No doubt..it will require a good connection.
At least 5Mbps down I'd say.
For those people who are on rural ISP's that don't give you much more than 2Mbps..there might be some issues..
People that have Fiber to the home service will most likely never have a problem with this service.
