Free hosting?
Hello, does any one here run a free webhosting biz?
If so, how do you make money out of free service?
I also started a related thread here

Thank you.

Thanks for the info. How do you display banners?
Do you use some kind of apache module to insert banners automatically?

I found threads here
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...ight=modlayout
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...ight=modlayout
And this is another thread I started.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showt...&threadid=84069
It seems that the mod_layout is the popular way to insert header/footer, but I need to use some kind of scripts(perl?).

I'm the owner/operator of 250Free. Stick a .com at the end of the name and you'll be visiting our site.
Can you make money in the free hosting business? YES. Is it easy? Heck no. Most people can't do it.
There's no secret about the angle. Two minutes at 250Free and you'll see the aim. The money's not in advertising. The money's in paid hosting. 250Free lives from customers who move on to paid offerings. Wanna learn to be the King of support? Become a free host.
There may be easier ways to make money in hosting. But every smart business person knows you need to find your niche. I have. My company is growing steadly, carrying a nice profit, and I am proud of my product.

The core of 250Free is based around SolutionScripts.com orginal HomeFree script. That will carry you to around 25,000-30,000 users before a custom solution would be needed.

What kind of feature do you think you are going to offer for free?
PHP, sql, CGI?
I think I should be really careful when offering a free hosting.
Maybe I should disable sendmail function, and not allow CGI scripts and such?
