    More mehost Problems

Okay, so the company I have been talking about on the other thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=83979) is mehost.com.

    No so quick summary:
The server I and my customers are on is optimm.mehost.com or optimm.uberservers.com - it normally responds to both addresses. Yesterday it had a corrupted proftp.conf file and wouldn't allow ftp connections, despite http running normally.

I had to wait 8 hours to get that fixed.

Now it is not accepting http calls. It has been like this for two hours.

I have e-mail their support address twice, e-mailed Jason once, IMed him several times, as well as e-mailing pwebtech's support address as well. I even phoned NAC but they wouldn't reboot the server for me because I am not on authorized the list.

I know the server is having issues, all my customers know the server is having issues. Now everyone here at WHT should know about it.

But not the mehost "team," apparently.

I put team in quotes because despite Jason saying he has other people working for him at mehost, the only time anything gets done is when he is online and responding to IMs.

So what do I do next?

I know what I can do while I wait...

I can close my customers' accounts as they all e-mail me to tell me they are fed up with the poor service.

Do you have root access to the server?
Do you do backups of the configuration files?

If the answer to both question is yes, you may try to restore the backed up proftpd.conf

I don't have root access. I was hoping Jason would set me up on a VPS account that's he's been promising.

    It gets better...

On phoning NAC a second time it seems that they can't locate the server to reboot it, nobody they can contact at Pegasus knows what rack the server is on, and apparently Jason is on a flight right now.

Maybe he's fleeing to Mexico to avoid all the angry website owners?

It's almost funny. If it wasn't for WHT I'd be really furious... at least we can share our anguish together.

I think I recall seeing a earlier post that said some of the MEHOST servers are located at the nyc noc, this may be one of them.

  13. #13
That's what the guy at NAC told me...

    Does it sound plausible?

Is there a way to e-mail the NAC guys to tell them this? It's getting expensive me calling them from here in New Zealand.

Wow, not heard that one before although I can half understand their unwillingness to reboot without authorisation from MEHost. Its a shame no-one from MEHost seems to be around to help.

Ok I talked to Steve from NAC, they will try to locate PWebtech or Mehost contacts on the issue.

  20. #20
Nope... he's not here, but his AIM and ICQ connections are both going.

I think that's what he said when I spoke to him last.

How can you lose a server?!?

    Damn I am very pissed.

Does anyone know of any other mehost staff other than Jason and Lyron? I have only ever dealt with these two - Lyron very occasionally.

    Exclamation

Interesting... I have been IMing Jason periodically to see if he feels like replying, with no response until about ten minutes ago. The response I got was the automated: "*** Auto-response from XXXXXX: I am away from my computer right now."

    I wasn't getting this before.

Presumably he's now set himself as "away" in the last 30 minutes or so.

Good news, server is being rebooted

  28. #28
    he replied!!!

Me: You didn't have your away message posted earlier, so presumably you have seen these messages and are aware of the need to reboot apache on the optimm server.

    Me: Please do it immediately.

    Him: working on it now.

    Me: thank you.

15 minutes later... still no change.

Well services take a while to start. But it seems the httpd issue is persistent.

  33. #33
I don't know if the machine has even been rebooted yet. 5 hours, 10 minutes and still counting.

I left this company 3 weeks ago because of this customer service. It took Jason three days to get back to me. I was already moved and propagated by his first response. He seems to be doing a lot of traveling lately. If your customers and support mean anything at all to you then I suggest you find a new host. They were prompt with my refund.

I actually put in a request for a quote on a dedicated server with mehost about 2 weeks ago. Took them 24 hours to respond, stating they would have a quote together by the next day. Next day came, no quote. Emailed them again, told me I would receive a quote by morning the next day. 5 days later I still had no quote. Emailed again, got no response. Still haven't received anything now, about 2 weeks after I requested a quote. Of course this means they have lost a possible customer.
