I enjoy watching the half-dozen RackShack MRTG graphs load on my network status page, then staring at the void where my UnitedColo box's is supposed to be.

Someone needs to start bitching about the 20% money back thing for lack of uptime. Maybe I will...

Hour and a half for me...

It's been lagging for at least 2 hours, but only completely down for me a half hour now. I'm definately going to contact them about 20%, and if they completely disreguard it, I'll take their "go somewhere else" advice and do just that.

    Anyone rang them?
I'd rather not waste another international call to get an answer phone.

Your server(s) are down, or you cannot perform any pings/traceroutes? Our server there has been up for 2 weeks solid.

[Sorry, my mistake. Sheepishly wanders off to add the UCG box to our nPulse monitor...]

hehe, i can show you the monitoring stats for a box I manage at UCG Gary... it's not looking pretty.. Like someone else said,.. you must be on a different network.. whats your IP? I'll get the client to ask for a transfer

Everytime someone posts about UCG being down here and on other forums, I've checked and we've been up. A couple of days someone was posting they were down but we were hitting our server quicker from here than to any other datacentre we've used. The same used to be the case for EFS as well though. Because generally AU-US is going through San Francisco. We don't have to hop around the US for another 80ms to get to a server.

So all in all it's a decent server for us. Asked if we would put paying customers on it recently, I said no. We only backup to it and use it for one single site. Whether we would in the future remains to be seen. They have only just started (on the dedicated server side).

Perhaps I'll rethink all this now that we're actually monitoring the darn thing again though. Someone forgot to re-add it after reinstalling nPulse recently.

Mm.. yet another. Guys. Unless your clients can take such downtime, it's time to provide quality service. sometimes such troubles are hidden costs (lost opportunities, clients quitting, your lost of hair etc)

Time to take most of the advice here. Just get someone else if you don't want to be bald by 30

    Thumbs down

Today I sent them the following email. I wonder what they will say. I’ll keep everyone up-to-date as I receive information from UC. This has been my experience with them since they setup my server up on October 22nd.

    Hi,

Since you sent this email I have been trying to connect to my server. But the following continues to happen. This is the same from home via my cable modem and at work via the T3.

1.) It takes me 10-30 seconds to make an SSH connection if I can even connect.

2.) If I do connect it is extremely slow and sluggish. I.e. I type 'ls -l' and it takes another 15-20 seconds to return results.

3.) I have no problem connecting via SSH or any other method to any of my other servers that are located at the following hosts to Rackshack.net, HE.net, Fastservers.net, Rackspace.com, DataPipe.com, Servint.com, Catalog.com, etc. Furthermore, my SSH connections are fast and I stay connected with no slowdowns, ever! So I only see this problem with you.

Since I got this server I haven't been able to do anything to it via SSH because of how slow it responds if it responds at all. Thus, administration of the box is impossible.

Unless someone can correct the situation for me I will have to request that my money be refunded ASAP.

Speckz, I can predict their reply

"Please read our TC at http://wereallydohavebadtrustworthiness.com/index.html clause XXX that says all servers must be paid in advance and is non-refundable"

Maybe they will say something else to prove me wrong.. all the better for you

Where are these guys located? I never heard of them and I thought I new the colocation market pretty well, since I have been in it for a couple of years now. Are they inside of rackshack?
