I'm looking for a new hosting service. My current hosting service is CE-INT. I currently pay $14.99 for 500 MB's of storage, 10 GB's Bandwidth, 1 mySQL db, PHP4, etc... For a more complete discription of what I'm currently getting --> http://www.ceint.com/rep/chil/webhosting.htm
I want to change to a different hosting service. I was thinking about changing to Spenix and am still thinking about doing that. I'm in real need to have more than 1 database. As well as a service that is really dependable.
Spenix is owned by Matt, who used to own this board.
I would recommend Dot5 or Host Rocket. Both seem to be target personal users rather than companies, with their virtual shared hosting offerings. The disadvantages for Dot5 is that they are fairly new and some folks around these parts don't like their aggressive advertising campaign (i.e. asking their clients to come post here about their Dot5 experiences). Apart from that I don't see any reason not to choose them. However you might want to try out HostRocket as well, if you prefer a company that's been in business for quite a while now. Downside would be that they have a heck of a lot of clients now and there's been a couple of support problems.
I haven't had any personal experience with the hosts, so you might want to ask Dot5/HostRocket clients to post their experiences/recommendations.
Well in that case I'm going to make your decision a little harder by recommending yet another hosting company I'm quite fond of. Although you may think I'm a little biased since I did their site design (just the design, not the flash banner or logo). I've provided a couple of links you can judge for yourself.
There's three forms of support: ticketdesk, irc chat or the forums.
Pricing seems good to me, I've got one of their reseller plans as well, as an additional courtesy from Charlie, the owner of the operation. Only two downtimes so far, lasting 15 mins. These were announced in advance.
Negatives would be lack of phone support and the fact they're quite new. Established in March of this year.
If you are looking for linux servers, good/fast support, and cpanel. Then I suggest venturesonline.com. I am hosting http://www.rcfiles.com here. They are not as low priced as the others out there and site is not as flashy, but service and bandwidth is top notch.
If you would like best of both worlds, windows with linux capababilities, I suggest gearhost.com. I am hosting http://www.joor.com here. Very low price and offer the space and bandwidth you are looking for.
Raggedy and Renegade, most people won't believe your recommendation especially if you are a newbie with just a few posts to your name, please provide evidence of the fact you host with Alphaomegahosting.com, and possibly your site with them.
Fazel3, I have been waiting for the WHT police to pull me over, Well heres the skinny officer, I have been monitornig this board for several months now, until recently I didn't have anything I felt inclined to share. As for be a newbie, I guess we all have to start somewhere and I could just blast off a ton of messages to up my newbie status, but thats not me. Now for the why no www site at bottom. My site is just for fun & learning. Its my Web Portal and email accts. but if you will rest easier tonight
Go here http://www.hoover.cc. now before you go running of and check my whois info its going to tell ya my dns is with renegadeshosting.com (private name servers) assume you have heard of them. its my site too. I have a resellers acct with AOH. and I just reg that one for the main. Not even thinking about becoming one, I'm just going to give space away to friends and family if they would like to get there feet wet.
As for Raggedy I know him and rest assure he's with AOH also.
Hope this clears this up for ya.
Now how much is the ticket, and where do I pay it.
Do you honestly expect, we should give every newbie the benefit of doubt? We did, a couple of months ago. We still do to some extent. But it's getting increasingly frustrating for regular surfers to see wave after wave of newbies going around recommending their own service. Especially the Dot5 scenario where there's even allegations that they are posting under different aliases. Simply said, if you've been lurking for the past couple of months, you too should be sick of seeing the rubbish being posted here, and should have realized without adding meat to your post, no-one was going to take you seriously. Frankly, under those circumstances, they shouldn't even have to.
If you want a ticket that badly, I'd give you one, it will be for gross ignorance, and you can pay it at the Red-Cross. That way you can make a change for the rest of the world, and for us regular surfers. Two birds with one stone.
Fazels, Thanks for the comments on my site. Now as for my gross ignorance, Nobody ask you anything in this thread and my post was directed to datagram40 and really nobody else, he ask for a recommendation, I gave him one. if he so chooses to look into AOH I know he won't be disapointed.
Your original post to Raggedy & myself as far as I'm concerned is just as bad as what your complaining bout, and why I said I had been waiting for it(not necessarily you but someone). One of the reasons I haven't posted is just that. Some in here feel its there board and jump all over any newbie that has an opinion. Yes I'm sick of the Dot5 stuff also, I have used them too, Not an ensim guy is the only reason I left.
If you have any recommendations on how to go from newbie to boob without getting slammed for ever post I'm sure there are lots of us who would like to know how ya did it.
It is not that hard, I only have 7 or 8 posts and he didn't say anything to me. All I did differently is listed my sites, thus no complaints.
Yes it does suck that you have to do that now, but I don't understand why people don't anyways (that is besides the point). Either way, just post the urls, no biggie.
Someone that is willing to complain about it is also going to be willing to research the origin of the name provided. Since you have different dns servers, you can look it up to notice that they both (AOH and Renegadeshosting) go through hostnoc.net.
What Joor said, pretty much summed up what I'd post in response. Not looking for a thesis here. Just something along the lines of "I recommend <company name> because <reason>. I am/am not hosted by them. <List sites you've got with them>"
Simple as that, no flames, no irritation and everyone's happy.
Thenmaybe you should have asked for that information rather than stating that no one will believe their recommendations and for them to provide 'evidence' that they host with them. If someone posts a suggestion, and a member want to know the URL of the site hosted, how hard is it to politely ask?
Don't even get me started on the 'Dot5 allegations' and the ignorance comments. Fazel3, it doesn't help things when members try to enforce one rule while breaking another.
We take the "be polite" rule VERY seriously! We do not tolerate ANY rudeness. Any member who is intentionally unpleasant or disruptive will receive one warning (at our discretion), and if the member offends again the member will be banned without warning.
Again, no matter how suspicious something looks, be polite and if needed, ask us to look into it. We got reports on this one, it was looked into, and at this time, that is all that is going to happen. There's no need to be rude, period.
