Thread: How to test..

  1. #1

    Question How to test..

Say you are trying to choose between two hosts.... And say that you know the servers that you could be located on due to their network status pages on their sites..... Then say that you wanted to compare each, for speed and responsiveness.....

    How would you do it?

Ask for an ip for each of the servers, traceroute them, find out who are their providers.

The better response you get from the ping and better bw providers could make your decision easy. Also hardware specifications is quite important... should be stable, and possibily ask for their server up-time script.

btw to do a trace route just open up your dos promt and write in it....

    C:\tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or domain.com

and it will run t he trace route.

And email both hosts with some questions to see their responsiveness, email several times to see their patience.

Or the one most likely to under because they're desparate for business.

Anyone who is a PITA from the git will have a hard time getting support anywhere, even McDonalds. Starting off that way is not a good idea, IMHO.

That's a ping response from a US based server to a US based server. Pings should be made from the location that end user is located.

You can make ping from Dos prompt

    C:\> Ping xx.xxx.xx.xxx
