I am actually looking for anyones opinion on what java script/program I should use for each of these situations:

1) To open, edit, and save a text file online. For example... I use SSI on a page and include example.txt. I want to be able to go to a URL that will bring up a box to write in with the current example.txt content, so I can edit it, and then save it on the server.

2) To post news on a page without a cgi-bin.

I am looking for either/both/any suggested scripts/programs to very very customizable, but if not, thats ok. I looked already for these scripts/programs but couldn't find anything, does anyone know of any good ones? Thanks!

I put together a simple news system that uses PHP and writes to a text file, no need for a CGI bin etc.

pop an include into the page, editing, deleting adding news etc, real simple.

Thanks, but i'd strongly prefer java. But maybe you can stll help... do you know what "web.xml" is? If so, what is it, where is it, ect. Thanks in advance

web is a file name, a variable chosen to indicate it's use.
.xml is the file format and in the context of what you're referring, is used to publish the news.

This sounds like you already have a script, why don't you attach it, or you don't, then where are you getting this informatoin.
