Edgehost compliants yet again
I started with them this month, RIGHT before all the downtime happened because I had heard these great things about them. Then, the downtime happened and it was almost constantly. Having come from cyberpixels, I was fed up with downtime all together and switched my server yet again. It was more me being already aggravted with cyberpixels then it was edgehost.
However, even at WHT, I expressed that if you were looking at edgehost, give them a chance to get this whole router thing cleared up or whatever, and then go, because, like i had seen, there were very good things said about them.
Since i was there less than a month when I asked to leave, I told edgehost i wanted to leave, and go ahead and get my refund according to the 30-day thing.
I have sent helpdesk tickets, e-mails to alec, who even e-mailed me back asking for paypal numbers and such, sent those and STILL! have yet to be canceled, contacted, or anything else.
I'm thinking maybe I was wrong to begin with.

Give 'em another day or so, then tell PayPal you didn't receive the service your payed for.

edgehost advertise reliable hosting services on their website, so why do I keep seeing complaints about them?
I understand companies go through tough times, whether is be uplink or hardware problems, but it seems to be rather continueous with them.

The complaints have been recently though, because of router troubles, which I am assuming are fixed completely now since they were supposed to be no more downtime, they "promised", right after I left.
Before that, when i did a search, it was all good

My view is webhostingtalk has had a negative impact on alot of hosts. Theirs a few hosts that became very popular here and due to the shear number of customers joining they have been swamped.

If you charge 30 customers $20/mo., you make the same amount if you charge 200 customers $3/mo. Guess which one also leads to overloaded servers (read: down) and overworked support staff. That is, *if* there's enough $$$ left over for staff, and an additional server.
But this isn't about basic business sense. This thread is about edgehost. It should continue to be...

Certainly it would be very bad if there was no satisfactory resolution here.
But as you said, Alec has replied and taken payment details for your refund. And as has been stated, it can take a few days for Paypal to process into your account.
Do keep us informed on this thread as to how things progress, though.

I would have to agree with Aussie Bob. If you plan for growth correctly, then you shouldn't experience most of the problems some hosts are/have experienced. Secondly, if you are growing too quickly, why not stop accepting new customers until you have increased your infrastructure & staffing levels so you can handle the load?
It seems a lot of hosts keep taking on new clients without having the vision for what is required in the near future should their client base suddenly boom.█ SERVSTRA | THE ENTERPRISE CLOUD SERVER & DEDICATED SERVER SPECIALISTS

I think the problems are lack of staff and as Greg says, 'why not stop accepting new customers until you have increased your infrastructure and staffing levels'.
EdgeHost has a good reputation, I hope it doesn't go bad.

Agreed - I hope they come through this OK, but they might need to stop worshipping at the temple of $$ for just a bit to get things straightened out.
Now if I could just get swamped with customers...

Hey,
I am trying to get all of you guys your money back ASAP, however I don't have access to the PayPal account so you need to wait for Kelsey to send you the refund.
There isn't much more that I can say about this as I see what is going on but it is out of my control. I have done all that I can to help out Edge Host our customers.
Thanks,
Alec

Well Alec, I don't think you can blame me considering I have had NO information on what was going on. The last time I talked to you in e-mail, you said you would get Kelsey to do it "today". That was a while ago. And then TWICE i was asked for my paypal information, the 2nd one was just today, and sent the SAME info twice.
Even if you were just waiting on Kelsey to do it, why would you need my paypal infor sent again unless it had been misplaced, etc. I dunno what the deal is.
The point being, I had no idea what was going on, no one told me. :-\ That's what bugged me in the beginning with you guys and the downtime.
I told you I appreciated that call you gave me letting me know what was going on with your routers and all while I was with you, but at the time, that was the first i was hearing on what the issues were, and it was like 9 HOURS after the downtime started.
People just want to know what is going on with their own site ya know. :\

Methinks Edge have learned a lot through this episode. Especially hope they take up on suggestions like that above - should be mandatory good practice.
Personally think they'll survive and rebuild their customer base. Alec has certainly handled complaints maturely. It would be too easy to just give up and tell everyone to **** off.
There's hope yet here...

Glad of that, tophoria. New beginnings all round, perchance...
