I know that web://cp is not as good as the commercial ones ... but I would like to know what companies are using it ... to see if there are any other ones besides me and can-host.com (the company that developed web://cp)
Just a note ... I have tried nearly every free cp under the sun, and by far, web://cp is the best overall (easiest for customer, and most features)
OK, well I must inform you that there are different types of supprt ... the opensource community is very good about helping each other. Honestely ... if you rely on a company just to work your own server, you need to re-evaluate you sys-admin status.
Of course I'm a linux programmer ... and as I said earlier, if you don't even know how your control panel is coded you are at a great loss.
Never said i didnt like it,, it looks nice and will probably continue to grow feature wise.. its not new though.. ive been watching it for awhile every since they first posted about starting up the project.. its a nice panel and i hope they are able to make things work so that they can offer commercial quality for free... was just saying that "sometimes" its hard to find support directly from programmers on open source,,
NOt saying thats the case here, not saying that there is anything wrong with the panel or that i dont like it, just saying its something to consider..
And I also prefer commercial for mission critical situations,
I know can-host.com uses it (it seems only logical). I also know that a couple of dedicated server providers install webcp on their servers, but it is used more as an administrative tool than a hosting control panel.
Everyone please keep in mind it is only Beta right now. We have a few months left on development before a full 1.0 version is released. Then a never ending development phase as we put new features into the control panel, ahead of us.
According to our URL tracking of people going to the webcp.net website or webcp.can-host.com website from their control panel. We have found many servers are using the control panel. Not that we recommend you do so while it is in Beta stages. For the exact reasons mentioned in the above posts.
1) Little installation documentation is available, however most posters on our board have found the help they need.
2) No support other then our Board is offered at this point, this will change but not until its into version 1.0
3) Its still is beta, and unlike ICQ or other programs it will be coming out of it
4) There are many more features to come and be improved on.
The servers which are active with web://CP are using either a buffed up version of 0.4 , or the newest release of 0.5 . We are in development of an update script which will update from 0.4 to 0.5 , however that is still in the works. Once it is released all of our servers will be running 0.5.
