Game Servers - Quality Bandwidth (not cogent) $50/mo
Can be any type of server with custom modifications - RTCW, Half-Life, CS, UT, Quake 3
- 20 Gb Transfer Total with hosting ($3.00 Overage)
- 500 Mb Gold Package Hosting Account
22.214.171.124 (running RTCW and CS on standard ports)
Currently I'm also offering a special of "unmetered" transfer (basically I"ll brunt the transfer costs till I can't do it anymore at which time I'll give notice that the above transfer charges apply in a given time period)
If your users our using AT&T Broadband you should be looking at a ping between 10-50 ms anywhere in the US, other networks I can't speak of but I know AT&T pretty well..

how can you call it unmetered? 20 gigs for a populer 20 player game server can easly be consumed in a time span of 4-6 days if not less. this offer sounds shaky... considering you dont list a site machine specs player limits or any details. If you are legit I suggest you post details and not to contradict yourself. Oh and 3$ a gig overage... unless its some kind of godly bandwidth.. Id like to know what ur smoking.
Ive been running my own servers for several years. Mostly HL and mods but Ive noticed that some of my more popular cs servers that run 20 players consume anywhere from 100-150 gigs per month. I cna get dedicated megs of bandwidth @99$ per month This is quality bandwidth that would be prime to run a server off of. And a dedicated server for 130$ so assuming that the server was to use 100 gigs the overage would be 80 [email protected]$ a gig=240$+50= 290$ at that price you could easily run 3-4 20 man servers. Im just trying to show you how signifigantly over priced you are and taht there is no way you cna compete with true companys that offer TRUE Unlmited bandwidth. Yes thats right Unlimited. Theese companys have calculated how much a server could use, and price accordingly. If you are a liget operation I suggest you do some serious market research and come up with a realisitic plan.
Instead of tearing his post apart, pm him and when you post, I hope people tear your postings a part also. You don't make his name look good because of your childish flaming of his post. If you don't like this offer, don't use it and move on. Grow up.
Do you really think there is unlimited bandwidth or something? that low ping and great peering is free? or cheap? your wrong..
A 24/7 Dust Server with 24 Players (constant) is estimated to do 300 + Gb of transfer... do you really think anyone but a cheap peered connection would ever take $50 bucks a month for that huge a loss.. not ever..
I deliver quality goods to quality people.. I ain't trying to compete with competition that may not be around next year or the next decade..
I don't rent and all my servers are hand built by me or associates
This particular server I'm looking to fill up is at VO the #2 recommended colo on this forum..
The one thing I'm not doing unlike my competition is "pretend" that I'll give you a server forever if your bandwidth costs exceed my profit/loss margin..
Like I said companys that rent out servers rent by the player slot and know how much bandwidth the server will consume. I have dealt with companys like this and they will not shut off your server if they are a reputable company.
I dont want to flame, I dont care about your operation personally.. but.
Have to agree. I know what bandwidth really costs, and I know what the margins are / can be in the game server hosting business.
I also know how many companies there are now, and how FEW actually have more than 50 customers as of now. History over the last two years has shown that there is a HUGE turnover of customers from the really little guys going in and out of business.
If you need an example, look at AOWC (artofwarcentral.com). Hugely overpriced, awesome support, and 300+ customers. They didnt get there by talking unlimited this or that, but offering their customers whatever they needed at a fair price. You must learn to do the same.
I rent servers for $4.75/slot per month (unlimited), I need to plan for bandwidth usage accordingly. Customers dont give a rat's ass about what DC you are in, who builds your servers, etc., as long as the pings are low and support is good. Therefore, your prices are FAR too high given your current arrangement.
Lets be conservative and say a server uses 100GB/mo (moderate usage). With your plan:
$50 + (100-20)*3 = $290/mo. Yeah right. Better rethink that plan. I intended this post to be helpful, but take it how you will.
