How long did it take for your site to go live?
How long did it take from an idea to start hosting to get the servers to finally having your site live? The hardest thing for us is that we have all the servers up and running and the cpanels working; we just need to get the site live. The site is dnsed and everything just need to link the merchant software to the customers. I would just like to know some feedback as to how long it took you.

Usually takes us about a 2 weeks to do a full redesign.
First time? Eh, 4 weeks to get everything going.

Took us 1 Year and half to come up with funds, make business plan, choose what we want, and we are still in the final touches for the big goal that we had. Launching November 1st, 2002.

How the hell do you put together a solid business in under a month? What kind of business plan do you have?

planning of my web service took about a year or more, it just didn’t take long to get clients or put the site together.
I also have enough in savings to run my company 3 years with out any customers.
I made sure I would be able to stay afloat during hard times.Marcus Brown

Well, I'm getting closer to launching, but still not quite. The plan has been in the works for over 6 months, hammering out the details, researching my options, the market, etc. My server was purchased this morning, business name was decided upon earlier this week, and now I'm heading into the developmental stages of the website, which I anticipate taking around a month or so to complete.
So, the whole process taking about 8 months I'm guessing.

from the time i first thought about doing this, to when i was up and running was over 2 years. no, that's not 2 years worth of making a business plan. most of it was just me trying to decide if this is what i really wanted to do and looking around at the various resellers to see what they had to offer. the timeframe for when i finally decided to do it was about 3 - 4 months. by this point, i had already been lurking here on WHT and reading up on things i would need to know.
time to first customer? first week.

Different people do things differently. However, taking 2 weeks to come up with a business plan, and then having it work out, is a very slim chance. If you wanted to get investors, it would be tought, definately.

Com'on guys, why would anyone in their right mind even give you the first letters of the list? It's none of your business to even ask for it in the first place.

Um ... for the record my response was a joke. (well, sort of - I really would like 9,000 customers. I would also like to win the lottery and live on a tropical island. )
