Server Hacked
Hi,
Windows 2000 Advanced server.
When I log into the server I am greeted by a popup window which says
Message from Webpopup03
Then some guff about taking a degree, or visiting some porn site.
Has anyone experienced this, have a solution or anything?
Thanks

Funny enough, we had a windows message excactly the same except saying "Free College Diplomas"
It looks like a spam email in a pop-up window, it has only happened on our Win2k Advanced Server which is our Office Network machine.

Well, the message was there on Monday morning. When did you get your message and do you an internet connection permanently on?

I was not in the office this morning, so I dont know if there was another message...
Ok, lets try and figure this out. Do you have virus and firewall software setup?
I'm really worried as if this is a breach of security... our data could be very much at risk

messenger service
It's being delivered to you via the messenger service.
You could stop the service but I'm not sure what are the knock on effects (if any) am looking into it now.
Cheers, Lee

I've been getting this on my AOL dialup account in the UK. I had just never found the solution for it. I would have thought AOL would block stuff like that.

If you just stop NetBios over TCP/IP (Advanced Settings) they aren't able to connect to ports 135-137. No more troubles with messenger spam and you can leave the messenger service running on your lan.
