    Arrow qmail-pop3d (Help!)

I'm trying to get my pop3 to work. I'm using qmail for outgoing, and using the qmail-pop3d for incoming mail. Everything works alright, except that it can't read or retrieve the mail. It tells me how much mail is in the Maildir (e.g. 29 message left to download), but It gives me an error message everytime I try to retrieve mail.

I'm trying to retrive mail directly to the shell using the "telnet localhost 110" command. Everything passes except when I get to the retrieve mail part.

I'm also trying to retrive it remotely through the Eudora email client. Same thing... everything passes, but it gives an error message that it can't read the mail.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

when I try to receive mail locally via telnet program, is says this:

    user (passes)
    pass (passes)
    list (passes)

    retr 1 displays error message:

"-ERR unable to open that message"

When trying to retrieve it remotely, is says this:

"29 message left to download. RETR 1 (9:49 PM)
There has been an error transferring your mail"

When using a mail client -Eudora - what does /var/log/maillog or var/log/qmail/current (splogger or multilog) say?

Sounds like a perms/owner problem of the Maildir

Look for the x bit set or vpopmail not owning it

ls -alR ~vpopmail/domains/<domainname> will tell all about the perms.

Whats the startup script for qmail-pop3d look like ?
GUI admin tools have no honor. It is a good day to vi.

I'm not using vpopmail. I'm using the defaults that come with qmail, and using a separate checkpassword program to check the password.

I think I may have found the problem. I keep on getting the following message on the "/var/log/qmail/pop3d/current" log:

@400000003da9f4302d3985b4 tcpserver: fatal: unable to bind: address already used

This is my "run" file (/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-pop3d/run):

    exec /usr/local/bin/softlimit -m 4000000 \
    /usr/local/bin/tcpserver -v -R -H -l 0 0 110 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup \
    my.host.name /bin/checklocalpwd /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir 2>&1

Anyone know how to get rid of the TCPSERVER problem?

I fixed it! It had to do with the password file for the pop3. Thanks for all your help!
