    Quixotic

For those that don't know Quixotic is the pursuit of a goal with little or no hope for success.

I am currently enganged in a Quixotic quest to become the next WorldCom CEO -- investors have demanded that John Sidgmore step aside and the board choose someone else -- I want to be that person .

To that end I set up a website: http://www.worldcomceo.com and pre-filled out an e-mail that can be automatically sent to Spencer Stuart -- the search firm looking for the new CEO.

I need as many people as possible to submit the form and send the e-mail to Spencer Stuart -- so my name gets known.

Now, you may be asking yourself why you should help to make me CEO? The answer is simple:

    Cheap Hosting

WorldCom owns 15+ data centers..I will be more than happy to provide space in those data centers to my supporters at VERY low rates -- once I become CEO .

So dammit go vote for me .

Cool, yea I remember reading him in Junior High, but I don't think he is required reading as much as he used to be (at least not in the United States).

"He" is a character in a book, so that sentence is sort of like saying you remember reading Captain Ahab, but don't think he is required reading.

But I'm not going to be too hard on you, because at least you do know what 'quixotic' means (sort of; it usually implies a pursuit of an idealistic or noble goal, not just any hopeless goal, like your dream job. A goal of bringing about world peace might be quixotic, asking for a big raise is not). You did capitalize it unnecessarily; but after all, a lot of capitalization could be just what WorldCom needs (thus bringing the thread back on topic).

I'm sorry, my pronoun did not have a clear reference..by he I meant Miguel de Cervantes.

Yes, and if 1000 people support me I will give a thousand of them cheap hosting. WorldCom revenues were $20+ Billion in 2001 (even after the adjustments for fraud). giving 1000 people discounted hosting is not going to make any dent in their bottom line.

Oh yea...you can be sure that I will be cleaning out the senior management of the hosting division . There are several VPs who made some really boneheaded decisions despite my protests who are gonna be wayyyyy unemployed if I have anything to say about it (which I will when I am CEO ).

I'll send the letter in support, if I can become Chief Quixotism Officer or, if not that, Vice President of Pronoun Usage.

Heh! This needs to be put on Slashdot.

EDIT: I wrote up a story submission, but I haven't submitted it yet. I wasn't sure if uuallan would have any problem with it:

I was reading Web Hosting Talk and I saw a link in one of the threads to http://www.worldcomceo.com/. That guy wants to be the next Worldcom CEO and is trying to get people to email Spencer Stuart (they're the people Worldcom hired to find a new CEO). There's even a prewritten auto-mailer in case people don't have time to write them a customized message. It'd be great if we helped him a little bit.

Just did. If enough people post it though, they might publish it.

Are you going to set up kiosks in homeless shelters so they can take advantage?

Thanks for trying...does anyone know the best way to get an article published on Slashdot (perhaps if I pledge to replace WorldCom's core routers with Linux boxes )?

Last year in my Spanish class we would look at Don Quixote de la Mancha (the real title) on and off throughout the year. That guy was nuts BTW.
