Cogent vs Level 3
We where thinking about changing from Cogent to Level 3 on our main data center the price would be three times as much.
Anyone recomend the upgrade?
Is it worth the extra money?
Appreciate the input

Greetings:
Cogent consistently ranks among the worse bandwidth period.
If it is -100, and the rest are 0 to 10, then it is very difficult to compare ;-)
Thank you.

Wow, I've heard some negative stuff around the board here but this very specific.
Anyone feel like listing some problems with cogent. They are a tier 1 so it could be a lot worse right? That was a question.

Hello,
Actually, it is all depend on your needs. Cogent is fine. But, Level3 is a much better quality bandwidth:
1. Much lower latency
2. Much broader network
3. Much stronger peering with others
I've been working with both Cogent and Level3 bandwidth, and Cogent is actually not that bad in my opinion. We have had good uptime with Cogent. It's just Level 3 is much better.
My recommendation is, if you don't find any needs to upgrade, there's nothing wrong to stay with Cogent. But, having a Level3 as Cogent backup is nice though (or vice versa).

Level 3 gets about 90% of the traffic (meaning it has a faster route 90% of the time), but cogent isn't bad. Just a tiny bit worse usually..
