    Mac OS on a PC

I heard recently that Apple has been testing the latest version of OSX on a PC platform. There are a few things to work out but, it works.

    Would you buy it?

Personally, I can't wait to dump windows. I was planning on going Mac for my next computer. My current PC is a dual boot with Redhat Linux. It would be awesome to add a Mac OS to that. I'd have the best of all worlds.

I'd buy it but only at my academic price of $70, not $130.

I have an iBook with OS X 10.2 and Windows XP on my desktop, and OS X rocks. To install Office, guess what you do? Drag it off the CD. To uninstall it, just delete it. No registry is the life.

Hmmm....that what they say. However, it has been rumored that Apple has had their Mac OS ported to Windows systems for some time now.

I'm not sure if they'll ever release it though. Apple is more hardware than software these days.

Well, you can also see the "DesktopX" name in the C: prompt.

    Bingo !

I really do have to admit though... I really love the OSX look and feel (the real OSX) and now that it's *nix based it's really tempting me to switch over. I just don't feel like buying all of my software all over again for Mac....

Aside from that fact that they are overpriced a little anyhow the thought of spending another $2000 on software alone makes me cringe....

I'd love to switch but, for now I'm staying here...

Apple keeps the Kernal up to date and running on X86 processors, but, I have a feeling this is just because they'd like to move to a 64-bit x86 processor (IBM is said to be developing one and there are rumors they contacted AMD about theirs).

Either way, you won't see OS X EVER running on a Dell or Gateway. Apple is Hardware first, software second, always has been, always will be.

I remember hearing a year ago the rumor that Motorolla would stop production of Apple processors at the G5. Even crazier I heard that Apple would switch to Athlons and no way would they be able to stay alive if they did that.

Apple is also well known for undergoing BIG changes to stay afloat. If they were to offer OSX to all PC users, with all the problems Windows is constantly having, I have no doubt it would do extremely well.

If Dell and Gateway could offer a non-Microsoft system with an OS as popular as the Mac, I have no doubt they would. It was tried with Linux but, Bill made threats that ended it. With the popularity of the Mac OS it might work.

Think of all those drivers that would have to be written....

Many USB devices don't even require drivers in OS X. It's beautiful, when I install hardware I literally turn off the computer, put it whatever I need, turn it on, and that's it. It doesn't even ask for a CD.

A Mac OS for that PC Platform would only do good if it came with the systems otherwise it would be a flop. From what I can tell the majority of people don't care what OS they're running, they just use which comes with the computer.

I think Windows is still gotta be the most popular cause most softwares are written for it instead of other OS.
But OS X still rules when it comes to interface.

I would die to switch to OS X if it supports all windows softwares.

I'd buy OSX in a second. But only for a PC. I refuse to deal with Apple's hardware. Love the OS though. I'm still waiting....photoshop without windows...ahh, dreams...

I highly doubt we will ever see Mac OS for PC. The reason being that Apple makes the bulk of its money from hardware. If their software is no longer tied to their hardware then they will be filing chapter 11.

Right, there's no money in being a software oriented company. Even if you have the superior software. That's why Microsoft is on the verge of going bankrupt

Bill Gates has about $20 billion, I don't think they're going to go away any time soon.

I believe that OSX has what it takes to knock MS out of the #1 spot. There's plenty of money in it for Apple.
