I realize that most of you already do guarantee your customers 99% uptime, but, in reality how good is that word? How quickly do you know if an individual service goes down? An hour, half an hour? While those are great times (I've seen much longer), it's still not good.

So, what to do about the problem? Wolfstream has developed a monitoring script that checks various ports of various servers, every 5 minutes. Not just apache, but any custom port can be checked. This guarantees you will know if your server goes down immediately (recovery options are available) via email.

While this service may be a little more high priced ($15 monthly per server for basic monitoring) than most, it's also quite a bit more flexible than most, and it does a lot more than most.
