    Domain Name Problem

Hi friends, I have a a domain name, lets call it whatever.com for now, and the registrar of the domain is no longer in business and the URL is not active on the web. From doing a whois search I know the name server info was as follows.

    AUTH01.NS.HARVARD.NET 140.239.140.239
    AUTH02.NS.HARVARD.NET 209.21.182.4

Can any one tell me how do I go about moving this domain to a new host?

I actually only want to use whatever.com as a redirector.

    Thanks for any help

You'll need to log into the control panel or contact the domain registrar and change the nameservers - unless you can change the data for the domain in the harvard.net nameservers.

You do own the domain, right?

No , I don't own the domain, I'm just trying to help out a friend. The person who owns the domain has said we can use the domain as a redirector as long as we set it up.

The registrar of the domain is no longer in business, where do i go from here?

    The domain is parentsplus.com

The domain is registered at Network Solutions. They are certainly still in business - though sometimes they may not act that way . If the domain was sold through a reseller, they may certainly be gone, but the domain is clearly registered at NetSol.

You will need to get the owner of the domain to contact Network Solutions and get access to the domain control panel to manage the domain - or to change the admin email contact to a working email address so you can transfer the domain away to another registrar.

The admin contact of the domain is Betsy Weaver, with an email contact at the domain itself - so if the domain is not resolving, you cannot simply transfer the domain.

If Betsy can prove she is who she says she is via fax to Network Solution (there are forms on their website for this), she can take control of the domain record and change it to use any nameservers she wants - or again to change the admin email contact to something that works and to transfer the domain away.

If you cannot get Betsy to do this, you are probably SOL.

    Registrar vs. registrant

    >Meltdown61: The registrar of the domain is no longer in business

I guess you are actually talking about the REGISTRANT instead of the REGISTRAR.

You're right nameslave, I really know nothing bout this stuff just trying to help a friend.

thewitt, many thanks for your detailed reply. I have another question, I'm on the NetSol site on this page https://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/host and its asking for the host, whats that all about??, it obviously not the domain as that comes back with an error. How do I get past this page?

    Thanks again for any help

Take a look at the other forms here https://www.netsol.com/en_US/site-map/index.jhtml and you should probably start with the forms to get control of a domain account here https://www.netsol.com/en_US/manage-it/ so that you can actually mange this domain.

If it wasn't for all these NetSol problems I'd get bored

As soon as this little problem is fixed - consider transfering out of NetSol - that's a nice domain and worth developing into a site.
