RaQ3 breaks at 512 outgoing emails.
Every now and then I need to send out 2000 or so emails at one time, and I have noticed that Outlook Express will send 512 messages with no problem, but something breaks at 513 and my email program (Outlook Express 6) is unable to send all the others. Upon the next send and receive it will happily send the first 512 again, then break, and so on.
Why does it do this, and how can I cure the problem?http://printers.abbey-lane.com

Basically Outlook Express was never designed to handle that level of (ab)use.
The simplest solution would be to install a server-based bulkmailer. There are quite a few available that can easily handle that kind of load and will send out your mail in batches.Blacknight

Thanks blacknight. Seeing as the same problem occurs whether using Outlook Express and Outlook I thought it must be my RaQ. So if it's my email client I'd better find another one just for sending my notices.

I think you misunderstood my answer.
You obviously run some kind of list, so you should run something directly on the server IMHO, rather than trying to overload a desktop client.Blacknight

What Blacknight ment is that you should use a serverside mailinglist like majordomo or something, this way you will be able to send loads of mail without a crash at 512 emails or whatsoever. I used to send mail with majordomo to over 3000 adresses (no I'm not a whell know spammer) in one go and never had that kind of problems in my old raq3.

I don't think I can use a server side mailing list on my RaQ without killing the RaQ. My entire client list is about 120,000 people, and I have to filter it and sort it each time to extract the exact people I need to contact. I have built quite a comprehensive collection of Macros and Access Queries to do this over the years, so it would be a major job to change the way it's done.
However, I can easily export those details to a text file for another mailer instead of outlook express to use after I have doen all my sorting/filtering.
Am i correct in assuming the server side mail solutions are not very versatile?http://printers.abbey-lane.com

Unless they are all personalized, why not set up a mailing list on the RAQ?

There are a number of server-side emailing programs that allow you to 'dump' hundreds of addresses into. Personally I use Mojo :
http://mojo.skazat.com/
which allows you to send both plain and html mails. It's free, feature packed and anti-spam... hope this helps

I am currently using a Word mail merge to email feature (which I LOVE by the way!).http://printers.abbey-lane.com

Hy,
perhaps MailKing is a tool you would like to look at. A client of us uses this software to distribute many personalized mails to his clients.
