If I set my server to another timezone where I live, Will other users have a big affect? or even software?

Its harder for me using a different timezone atm.

Do you have any specific needs setting the timezone to yours?

BTW, each user on your system can have different timezone from system timezone. See this for more details (assuming you are using Linux).

Greetings!

We are reviving this old link to ask for help on same issue.

Ok here is our concern. We have a reseller account. We are hosting several clients in there. Most of the clients are in located in the Philippines where we reside.

One account there belong to our official website model which is on different timezone. She requested something like:

"Oh yah, can you change the time on my stuff to be GMT-08:00 Pacific Time? "

We have some customized guestbook and journal installed in there using PHP.

We know that this is dependent on the server where the account is hosted. So how do we specifically indicate the timezone for a certain domain hosted to be such? Or is this even possible on a Reseller's end?

Thank you very much for the help.

Login via SSH (the users account) and type "set TZ=PST" (less the quotes of course ).

woohoo... been a long night... login and type "TZ=PST8PDT". That should set the environmental variable, but may require a reboot before the "date" function will show it properly... I've never actually tried this so I'm not sure if after the reboot it will be overwritten....

Tell her to use the gmt date + the timezone offset. It should be done in the software not on the system.

That's silly, and it would take far longer then just changing the user timezone.

I'm well aware of where the system timezone is. Do some research on the TZ environmental variable.
