    winzip for MAC users?

I have a friend who needs to "package up" some files. I suggested winzip for him, but he's on a MAC and can't seem to find a MAC version of the program.

    I have two questions:

    1. Is zip format for MAC same as zip format for PC? If my friend zips up a bunch of .jpg files, will I be able to open them on my PC?

    2. What zip program do you recommend for MAC users? He is a basic user, and does NOT need bells or whistles. The simpler the better for him.

    Thanks!

The program you recommended seems to be unable to create zip files.. which is what I am asking for.

    Can anyone else help me?

I do not think this is possible. 'StuffIt Expander' is kind of like a WinZip except it is made for Mac and Mac's only. WinZip is made for Windows and Windows only.

If I am somehow wrong, someone please correct me...

The common compression utility for Mac users is StuffIt. Get your friend to stuff the file and send it to you.

Get the StuffIt expander program at the link provided by Phrozen to unStuff the file.

StuffIt Expander is included in OS 9 and above, I believe.

Also zip files are perfectly transferrable between Macs and PCs. Virtually any file is nowadays, incompatibilities between Mac documents and PCs are nearly a myth now.

Is there a MAC program to create a zip file anywhere? Stuffit looks ok, but I actually need to create a zip file, not some proprietary format.

    thanks!

Well, if you insist, you could try MacZip.

Stuffit has DropZip which is basically stuffit expander in reverse and for .zip files.
