Why is URL being translated to numeric IP?

This is not my server, but my friend needs help with this problem:

When I go here: http://www.daveroels.com/gallery the URL gets automatically translated to the numeric IP address in the address bar of the browser.

But if I go here: http://www.daveroels.com/gallery/ then the address does NOT get translated.

Can anyone tell me what is causing this and how I can fix it? I do NOT want the URL to be translated into the numeric IP just because the trainling slash is not typed.
    Thanks!

Open the httpd.conf (I am assuming Apache here), search for the domain name, then in the virtualhost block, look for the ServerName directive, it will probasbly be:

    ServerName 123.123.123.123

Obviously with 123.123.123.123 being the IP address, change the IP to the domain name, save the changes, restart Apache.
