1&1 - Excellent Hosting!
I use 1&1 business package to host 3 of my sites. I have to say it is excellent:
- Never down
- Very fast
- Excellent control panel
- Lots of useful features
- Great support: (chat based), e-mail - always on time or telephone, equally as good
- Very generous with pop3 accounts, bandwidth, web space, e-mail aliases, sub domain names etc. MySQL database size.
- Inexpensive
- NOT UNLIMITED - they dont try to lure newbies with false claims which in my oppinion is fantastic.
- Overall very pleasing to use becuase its so solid and functional
I am so happy I host with them great company!
THey do dedicated also now. For all my clients I always recommend to host with 1&1 as they are just the best out there.
Any one else had experience with 1&1?

k3bab, Is one of the sites you own that's hosted by them the one in your home button of your profile?

one and one suck ,their attitude sucks and their domain registration is blackmail, instant domains take 5 days to register, you cant change their named servers.
the hosting may be good but tell them you are leaving and ask them to point your named servers to a new host then see how good they are
the german company is http://SCHLUND.de

both of the accounts I have registered with them work great, all the domain names took only a day to register 2 days at most.
The suppoer team seems to respond to even complex technical issues and solve the issues.
I will never leave them becuas the service is just so good.
Maybe people had bad experience with them?

it`s good that your happy with them ,but wouldn`t you prefer to own your own domains ,because beleive me as long as you registered your domain with them they wont let you switch to another host.
its good to hear your domain was registered the same day two at the most but they advertise "instant domain registration" around here we are used to getting our domains within minutes not days.
but if it works for you then great ,i`m sure they have many happy customers who are unaware what real domain registrars are.
i`m not just posting for no reason i do have an account with them so i`m speaking from experience.

they suck
i have a domain registered by them but they refuse the change the name server for me . they said you can transfer out, but if you use other hosts and wanna change DNS, no way!!! never heard a domain registar wont allow their clients to change DNS, as the clients are the real owner of the domain, not 1 and 1

thats not a flaw thats blackmail ,they are trying to force you to use their hosting.
add to that the misleading advertising on their site plus the lack of support ,yes they answer you but just keep repeating the same damn thing again and again ,we cant change your named servers ? thats total crap of course they can they just wont , i have reported them to nominet and icann for their practices.

But can't you just register your domain name elsewhere and just point your domain to their nameservers?
If I'm way off-base, please don't shoot the newbie.

No offence, but 1&1 Internet LTD are like one of the biggest UK hosting companies out there.
They have acquired their own £15million data centre and have god knows how many servers and clients
So I really don't think they would even feel the need to pose as a satisfied client to post on a forum.
However, saying this, a few years ago I had a personal hosting account with them and they very much do limit you on the domain side of things, its fair enough that you can purchase them for like £1.99 however, you are unable to make ANY changes whatso ever without ringing their 0870 number.
When we cancelled our account with them we requested nameserver changes which took them 5 days and was only completed becuase we spoke to Sebastien who I believe was/is a sale/support manager there.

Been trying to get a clients domain name moved away from them for several weeks now, and they have gone out of their way to make it difficult if not impossible to do.
I've been quoted 6 weeks for them to change nameservers.

Fast Support via email?
I've emailed them a few times recently and Royal Mail has answered quicker.

Man I could swear I remember getting spam from oneandone something just a few days ago, but it's not like I kept it around but the fact it was hosting spam I did look at it for a second and it was oneandone something.
Also holding domain names hostage is a really crappy thing to do, just the peopple posting in this thread about it happening to them is enough to keep me far far away from them.Gary Harris - the artist formerly known as Dixiesys

Never really had a problem with them, yes support leaves a lot to be desired but they are hardly the most expensive hosts are they.
As I hear a lot on here you pay for what you get.
I pay for more bandwidth than most, I pay for more webspace than most for the same money.
I wish they would sort out the inbuilt message boards and make them useful.
I wish they would allow cgi on the £4.99 package
But these are minor.
if I have a problem moving away I would use the route that i used last time I was held to ransom. I cancelled the domain waited for it to become available again and re-registered it elsewhere.
Down time of about 48 hours.

A lot of our customers are ex-oneandone and one thing comes through loud and clear, they are very unhappy with the level of support - generally they seem happy with the uptime, speed and pricing but leave because they cannot get support.
We also had one come to us the other day as they are developing a .NET project and oneandone have crippled their .NET support so much it's unusable - for instance my customer claims you cannot upload your own .dlls to the /bin directory which is kinda THE WHOLE POINT of .NET !
We've also had loads of domains moved over to us from them without any problem at all - the customer just logs into their account, cancels the domain contract and changes the domain to our tag. Never had a problem with it and they're a damn sight easier to work with than certain others *cough* u k 2 *cough*
