Dear All,
I am in the process of building a website for my company. The case is like this: Our dealer should be able
to place an order, which may contain even 100 items. (this we've done already). Coming to the order
processing part, every item in the order has a different delivery date, different invoice number, etc. As
soon as the sales office receives an order, it has to go to the "manage orders" module and by giving
delivery date, accepted delivery quantity, etc.for each item of the order, an automatic mail need to be
sent to the dealer as an official acknowledgement.
This seems to be a complex case for us. We have around 700 dealers. Assuming that we get 20 orders/day
and assuming each order has 50 items, the sales office user need to give delivery dates & accepted
delivery quantity to 50 x 20 =1000 items per day. Just imagine the web traffic. Now, this is our problem.
For your kind information our site is .net based.
How can we get out of this bottleneck? I'll be very thankful to you if i get your advice on this topic.
Regards.
Vijay.

I would say an online shopping cart would be your best bet, Vijay. Any decent shopping cart will capture every item ordered, generate invoices and have a contro panel for you to manage orders.

Hi gzola,
We have included the shopping cart. However the problem is a bit different. Every order has the following entities.
Order No
ORder Date
Order items ( may be a list of 1 to 100)
order quantity for each item in the order
Committed delivery date for each item in the order
accepted delivery quantity for each item in the order
actual delivery date for each item in the order
actual delivered quantity for each item in the order
invoice number for each item in the order
payment received - Yes/No option for each invoice
All these details should be available to the sales office user in the database. any simple ways to get it done, without reducing the speed of the website???
Regards.
Vijay

I don't see why this would slow down a web site... It just sounds like you need a custom script programmed to be able to do it the way you want it done.

I agree with Michael here.
You just need to custom tweak your existing shopping cart in order to add all those required fields so that your dealers need to fill them up while making orders.

For your kind information, Order items( may be 1 to 100) does not mean 100 orders. It means the no. of items in one particular order.
Also,
Order No & date - automatic.
Order items - to be selected by dealer
an order may have 'n' no of items within it.
all other entities - need to be filled by the sales office user
for administrative purposes.
From whatever web ordering sites I've seen, an order will have a single delivery date (no matter how many items you've included in the order) and a single invoice no. But here 'all other entities' are item specific, not order specific.
You mean to say that even in this case there is no problem in speed?
Also, how difficult is it to write the code for this case?
We've finished all other things for this web. The only item pending is this bottleneck.
Thanks for your help so far. Looking forward to some more insight into this.
Regards.

This has nothing to do with your website slowing down.
I recommend you pay someone to modify an already existing script so that each item is treated as a different order.
