Hello,
A Virtual Private Server (VPS , also referred to us as Virtual Dedicated Server) is a method of partitioning a physical server computer into multiple servers that each has the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine. Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system, and each server can be independently rebooted.
Regards

SAN VPS hosting is for those who want control and flexibility of a dedicated server at a very low cost.
A Dedicated Server, Just Shared Virtual Private Servers occupy a middle ground between a dedicated server and regular shared hosting. You get the features of dedicated hosting in a shared environment.
Your virtual server runs on one of our reliable servers. Each physical server runs a limited number of virtual servers. Each virtual server shares the physical server's memory, CPU, Internet connection and other resources. No one VPS can monopolize resources. Each VPS gets a guaranteed share of the server CPU, disk IO and network.

Basically...
On user side: you will have our own resources, can try your scripts, that might not run on shared environment due to security settings.
On vendor side: if the datacenter supports high density cabinets, you will save rack space, power usage when virtualizing your dedicated servers. We have reduced 1/2 number of servers when doing that way.
