A copyright issue
Greetings!
I have noticed in our logs that somebody is "hotlinking" some of the images in our gallery. I actually found out where the hotlink come from. It is from a bulletin board.
Kindly take a look at our copyright page:

What do you think we should do with the erring person?
Thanks.

Email them telling them to remove the images you have copyrighted?

I am trying this hotlink protection feature of CPanel. Does it work?

It works for everything... just sucks when you want to direct link something off your own account.

I got an idea, change the hot linked images to something else, an ad for your site if you like....then change the name of the pictures you want and link to them. If they hot link to the new images, turn hot linking on (off if you like...).

Hey, that's a good idea. I'll do that.
Thank you. It seemed that hotlink protection is not working properly...
EDIT: Got it figured out. You will have to redirect it to an image off your site, say your other site.

Now, I have this weird problem.
Hotlink protection seems to be not working effectively.
Our website when accessed without a forward slash on the URL displays the notice graphic for hotlinking. While there is no problem with the URL with a forward slash at the end.
Does anyone encounter problems with hotlink protection? Please share your insights.
Thank you.

Hi havnt been around here in a long time, long story lol
But have you tried a htacces file? I used one when I had the exact same thing (by chance was this board linking an ez board site?) If its the same one I may have his email around. I sent him an email warning him to stop.
Anyway try making a htacces file and place it in your images folder and it should only prevent hotlinking themhttp://www.graphicsteck.ca/vb/

The best way is through htaccess instead of cpanel.
This is so you can specify which URLs can link to the images.
We have ours set to these:
http://ourdomain.com
http://www.ourdomain.com
http://sub1.ourdomain.com
(sub1 actually cotains the pages that use the images)DANG DANG! DANG!!™
I know ***** ripped off everybody else, but they wouldn't do it to me.

A good suggestion that someone else posted a week or so:
Change the images to advertisements for your webpage, they should remove it pretty quickly like that..

This technique of changing the image to an ads will not however solve the problem totally. It will simply let it go away for awhile. But, the person will simply change his link sometime later so it does not stop him to do the hotlink.
I will try .htaccess approach.
Thanks everyone. More ideas will be appreciate by others too.
